Body Welding & Assembly
Distribution Pyramid of Comau BW&A standard products
We constantly improve our offers, technical solutions and products, promoting new technologies and innovation in the entire production process of its deliverables.

The top level of the pyramid (Level 1) represents a typical Body Shop that includes all major commodities: framing, underbody, body sides, closures etc.

Our Templates:
Level 2: Complete production Stations and Modules that composes the main welding lines.
Level 3: Equipment and Machinery that make the production stations and modules.
Level 4: Units, supports, components, grippers, lockers that compose the tooling.

Highest pyramid levels are assembled with large amount of products (coming from lower levels), multiplying such advantages as costs reductions and efficiency improvements deriving from the extensive use of lower-level sub-components. These sub-components are intended to be the "basic bricks" of a huge body shop.

 Level 1 - Body shop
Comau BW&A supplies complete Body Shops from green field throughout the production launch (start-up).

Body Shops are composed of sub-lines or commodities that produce the various body structure components and mainlines that join the components into a complete vehicle body. Comau BW&A offers high performance products and services in all body shop areas.

In developing body shops manufacturing solutions Comau BW&A utilizes standards that maximize system efficiencies, facilitate cost reduction and shorten launch time.

Reliable Standards have proven their reliability through application in hundreds of installations in various production environments.

Based on these proven standards, Comau BW&A has developed a "Template" library of technological solutions and products, for the entire Body Shop and for all commodities sub-areas.
 Level 2 - Stations
 Remote Laser Welding - Agilaser
One Agilaser standard system may replace several traditional welding robots. Agilaser is a Comau BW&A patented remote laser welding technique for CO2 remote laser welding. Agilaser pulls together all advantages of the up to date laser technology at low cost.
Remote Laser Welding - Smartlaser 
Smartlaser, integrated with all other welding systems and welding lines delivered by Comau, gives its best performances when applied with product and process re-evaluation. This permits an enormous increase of production and flexibility; thus reducing time to market for new products introduction.
 Remote Laser Welding - Swinglaser
Integration of a conventional laser head with six axes articulated Comau robot.
Thanks to the field's deepness of its remote focusing optics Swinglaser is very tolerant about the actual work piece position, no auto-focusing systems are required.

 Openrobogate Butterfly Type
OPENROBOGATE, butterfly configuration, body framing system consists of: central base-plate equipped of references and clamping groups for framing gates; mobile raceways for side gates equipped of connecting rod system; clamping lever locking system, driven by pneumatic actuator, which performs final positioning and clamping of side gates into geo position.

Accumulating Pallet Conveyor
A variety of solutions that take into consideration process requirements and work piece dimensions
 Table Top
This electro-mechanical hemming presses are able to perform 45°/90° clinching and, as well, lifting of parts for unloading operations
 Transfer Trolley
Transfer trolleys are used when a truck change is necessary. The advantage of this component consists in the possibility of quickly switching skids to other parallel trucks lines
 Twin columns belt elevator
This system, called twin columns belt elevator, is used to vertically transfer skids, or pallets, between transfer lines at different heights
 Belt drop section high load
This single column belt drop section move skids and pallets (up to 1500 Kg) vertically between lines located at different heights
 Roller table
Roller tables are devices made of a series of motor-driven rollers mounted on a mechanical structure. They have the duty of moving skids, or pallets, in a longitudinal direction at various speeds and according to process requirements
 Dual line roller table
For special applications dual line roller table are required by process. They are made up of a series of motor driven rollers mounted on a mechanical structure. Their function is moving skids, or pallets, in a longitudinal direction at a different speed; according to weld station's requirement
 Concentric rotating table
Concentric rotating tables have the duty to rotate skids, or pallets, by 90° or 180° from input direction. The rotating hub is located in the centre of the table platform
 Eccentric rotating tables
Eccentric rotating tables have the duty to turn skids, or pallets, by 90° from input direction. The rotating hub is located at one end of the table platform
 Lift table with lever and gear
This unit: lifting table with levers and gears boxes is designed for body framers. It is used to move roller tables, with skid and a car body on board, in both vertical and longitudinal directions
 Scissor lifter
This equipment, defined scissor lifter, has the function to move parts and components in a vertical direction allowing fast and easy change of working levels
 Lift with roller table for welding station
This lifting table, with integrated bed, is helpful within an automatic or manual working cell in order to lift the transported part and deposit the same on dedicated fixture
 Lift with roller table for buffer
This lifting table is necessary, inside of a belt cross transfer systems (i.e.: in case of Buffers), to deposit skids on belts. Units like this require working strokes just between 100 or 150 mm
 Lift table compact
Lifting tables are used in all cases where is necessary to move skids between sliding heights. Furthermore they are used, within automatic or manual cells, to lift parts and deposit them on fixtures
 Trunnion
Trunnions become popular within robot applications because enable support and positioning of tooling, and parts, in different sides, positions and angles permitting multiple processes and operations
 Level 4 - Units
 Modular grippers, end-effectors
With the new generation of grippes and end-effectors we may positively address items like: flexibility, modularity, mounting repeatability, easy maintenances due to the use of standard modules, cost abatement.
 Robot stands and risers
Robot stands and risers are extensively used into any automated body shop.
 Clamping fixtures, pins, lockers
Easy to replace, repair and maintain. With a limited number of sub-components, some of them from free market.
