Racks & Pinions
Reliance is a manufacturer of precision racks and pinions
produced by a thread grinding process which generates teeth of helicoidal
form. This process provides two distinct advantages: very good pitch
accuracy and sufficient tolerances of meshing conditions within 0.25o to
make high precision alignment of the pinion unnecessary. Manufactured in
round, tubular and rectangular section, Reliance rack can be used for both
measurement and actuation applications.
Reliance also supplies standard hobbed rack for less demanding applications.
Round Rack
Ideal component for linear actuators in accurate automation applications
such as X-Y tables, printers, lab automation equipment and robotics.
Tubular Rack
Especially useful for medical and scientific applications, where the hollow
shaft allows for the passage of fluids, fibre optics and gases etc.
|
 |
Clutches & Collars
Friction Clutch
Reliance friction clutches are available with either a set screw or a clamp
type hub, with bore sizes 4, 5 and 6mm. Coupled with one of Reliance's
precision cut gears, these clutches provide zero backlash prior to slipping
and are designed to protect actuators from torque damage.
Solid Couplings
Reliance solid couplings are available with bore sizes between 3mm and 10mm.
Manufactured from stainless steel and aluminum alloy, they use precision
honed bores to provide accurate location and a high clamping force where
traditional flexible couplings would not be appropriate. Nypatch®
anti-vibration hardware is used on all variants.
Shaft Clamp Collars
Reliance shaft clamp collars are available with threaded bores and plain
bores. Both clamp and setscrew style fixing is available.
|
|
|
|
Linear Bearings & Slides

Reliance Linear Bearings and Slides are a range of linear
bearings, guides and shafts that provide low friction and long life.
Spline Shafts
Reliance spline shafts are designed for light to moderate loads where linear
motion is required in conjunction with anti-rotation. They are excellent
alternatives for applications where hexagon shafts, square shafts and high
cost ball splines may have been typically used. A graphite filled PTFE bush
and a stainless steel TFE coated spline shaft provide low friction and long
life.
Linear Guides
Reliance linear guides offer a high quality, cost effective, linear motion,
and incorporate a gothic profile design with a 45o contact angle that
provides equal load capacity in all directions. Large steel balls have been
designed into this compact assembly to afford enhanced load capacity and
high torsional resistance. For high speed applications the RMR miniature
design includes an embedded plastic inverse hook that tightly secures the
carriage components to absorb the forces generated during high acceleration.
Ball and Cross Roller Slides
Reliance ball and cross roller slides are ideal for lightly loaded
applications requiring minimum friction. Typical straight line accuracies of
0.0001mm/mm and a positional repeatability of 0.0025mm with a coefficient of
friction of 0.003 are available in the cross roller series.

Can-Stack & Hybrid Linear Actuators From HaydonKerk
The Linear Actuators Come In The Following Styles
|
|
|
|
Captive Shaft
Captive linear actuators offer a short stroke in a
compact package where anti-rotation of the shaft is not possible by any
other means.
These units convert rotary to linear motion via an integrated leadscrew and
nut in a compact package. Named ‘captive’, the integrated leadscrew is held
captive within the motor housing, welded to a stainless steel spline
arrangement providing anti-rotation of the leadscrew enabling precise linear
movement.
|
 |
Non Captive Linear
As with the captive shaft actuator, conversion of rotary
to linear motion takes place within the motor itself by means of the
integrated leadscrew and nut, therefore eliminating the use of belts and
pulleys, couplings and other mechanical transmission components.
The non captive leadscrew travels through the motor enabling the shortest
possible footprint of any linear actuator available on the market today.
|
 |
External Linear
External linear actuators combine conventional leadscrew
and nut technology, with stepper motor technology. The leadscrew forms part
of the motor shaft negating the need for a shaft to shaft coupling, thus
providing zero transmission error from motor to screw and shortening the
overall linear foot print.

|
|
Motorised Stages
Motorised Stages Come In The Following Styles
|
|
|
|
Reliance Cool Motion Stage
The Reliance Cool Motion Stage (RCMS) combines the high
speeds, linear accuracy and reliability of a screw driven linear slide with
the intelligence of the Reliance Cool Muscle Motor with rail lengths up to
1m.
High performance proprietary polymers and TFE coatings extend the life of
the moving parts.
Constructed with a precision aluminium guide and carriage and driven by a
precision rolled stainless steel leadscrew.
|
 |
Linear Rail Actuators
The Reliance Linear Rail Actuators combine linear
accuracy and reliability of a screw driven linear slide with a robust
lightweight aluminium rail, giving high axial end to end stability and
precise motion system accuracy.
Ideally suited to low speed and shorter strokes than the RCMS, the Reliance
Linear Rail Actuators provide modest load carrying capacity in pitch, roll
and yaw.
|
 |
Reliance Cool Muscle Miniature Actuators
Reliance Cool Muscle Miniature Actuators are available
with both leadscrew and ballscrew drives. Their small profile makes them
ideal for reducing the size of medical equipment, dispensers, soldering
robots and small component systems.
The leadscrew version uses a low friction leadscrew which is specifically
designed to be quiet in operation.
The ballscrew version uses a high accuracy, high durability precision
ballscrew.
|
 |
Bespoke Solutions
Reliance have a range of X, Y, Z and rotary motorised
stages which can be easily adapted to provide various linear and rotary
movements.
Easily adapted to suit the Reliance Cool Muscle Motor these stages can
provide a reliable and complete solution.
Please enquire for details of these stages as the number of possible
variations are high. We cannot show all the variants on this website.

|
|
Gearboxes
The Reliance
Gearbox range has precision planetary gearboxes, both with standard backlash
and low backlash options. These gearboxes can be supplied fitted with a
Reliance Cool Muscle Motor or, alternatively standard NEMA 17 or 23 adapter
plate to suit virtually any industry standard motor.
For right angle motion, hypoid gearboxes and bevel gearboxes are available
with various input and output shaft options.
For applications where accuracy is not critical, Reliance Epicyclic Modules
can be mounted inside a bespoke housing and their unique design allows
various modules to be plugged together to achieve larger reduction ratios.
Gearboxes Come In The Following Styles
|
|
|
|
Planetary
Reliance Planetary Gearboxes are designed specifically to
suit NEMA 17 and NEMA 23 motors.
Ratios from 3:1 to 512:1 with maximum output torques up to 123Nm. The RGPN70
low backlash unit offers less than 3 arc minutes of backlash.
Precision machined gear profiles, case hardened and honed for higher load
capacity, low noise, minimum wear and consistent backlash.
A balanced motor shaft clamping ring allows high input speeds up to
18,000rpm
|
 |
Hypoid & Bevel
Reliance Hypoid Gearboxes are fully sealed with an
aluminium alloy casing, stainless steel shafting and offer ratios of 5:1 or
10:1.
Reliance Bevel Gearboxes are available with either a single or double output
shaft design with ratios of 2:1 and 1:1 available. Using high quality bevel
gears the backlash of an assembled gearbox is around 15 arc minutes. The
gearboxes are manufactured with pre-tapped holes for alternative mounting
arrangements and high quality grease giving lifetime lubrication and low
maintenance
|
 |
Epicyclic Modules
Reliance Epicyclic Modules are available in ratios of
3:1, 4:1 and 5:1. Their unique design allows the units to be stacked
together providing higher ratios.
Efficiencies of 98% per single unit and 95% for two units coupled together
are achievable.
The inherent problem of load sharing with planetary gear systems is solved
by the use of pitch disks which are designed to equalise the load of each
planet gear.
