New SVAC3 Digital Servo Drive Features EtherNet/IP
Connectivity

Servo2Go.com has just added Applied Motion Product’s New SVAC3 Series Digital
Servo Drives to its broad range of high performance servo amplifiers used in
Industrial Automation applications.
The SVAC3 is a powerful servo controller in a compact and cost effective
package. This AC powered drive is loaded with features and options that make it
a great choice for many OEM applications. SVAC3 drives can be controlled via
analog signal or step and direction inputs. Alternatively, they can be
programmed to act as stand-alone units with the power of Q Programmer™.
All models include EtherNet/IP industry-standard network communication which
simplifies connection to the supplied Windows PC software for configuration and
tuning, and allows applications to communicate in real time using the SCL and Q
languages over standard 100Mbit Ethernet cabling, addressing and protocols.
The SVAC3 also provides an upgrade path for users who want to migrate from step
motors to servo motors without a large cost increase. Paired with a V or M
series servo motor, the SVAC3 servo drive offers great value.
Three drive models are available, each in 120VAC and 220VAC versions. The 120V
versions provide up to 3.5 A rms continuous current and 7.5 A rms peak. The 220V
versions provide up to 1.8 A rms continuous and 5.4 A rms peak. A built-in
regeneration (power dump) circuit safely disperses incoming energy from rapidly
decelerating inertial loads.
There are 3 control options available with the SVAC3 servo drives: S, Q and IP.
- “S” drives can operate in analog torque/velocity, pulse & direction, and
streaming serial (SCL) control modes. Select the control mode, tune the servo
motor and configure the drive using the Quick Tuner™ software
- “Q” drives can operate in all of the same control modes as S drives,
plus they have the ability to run stand-alone Q programs stored in
non-volatile memory. Q program are created using the Q Programmer™ software,
and provide multi-tasking, math functions, conditional processing, data
register manipulation, and more features in a robust yet simple text-based
programming language. Like S drives, Q drives must first be set up and tuned
using the Quick Tuner™ software
- “IP” drives come with built-in EtherNet/IP network communications, the widely
used industrial protocol for manufacturing automation applications. With
EtherNet/IP, users can control, configure and query the drive using an open,
standards-based, industrial Ethernet connection at speeds up to 100 Mbits/sec.
The SVAC3-IP drives run all of the same control modes as Q drives, with the
addition that all drive features can be accessed over EtherNet/IP, including
more than 100 commands and 130 registers for controlling motion, I/O,
configuration, polling, math, register manipulation, and Q programming. SVAC3-IP
drives are set up and configured using Quick Tuner™, while Q programs are
created using Q Programmer™

Galil's DMC-300xx Pocket Motion Controller is Smart,
Compact and Low Cost

Galil Motion Control, an industry leader in motion control technology, is
announcing the DMC-300xx Pocket Motion Controller Series, their latest
generation, single-axis Ethernet motion controller. It combines a high
performance motion controller and a 800Watt sine drive in a low cost, compact
3.9 in. x 5.0 in. x 1.5 in. package. The DMC-300xx is also available as a
controller-only model which can be connected to a stepper or servo motor
amplifier of any power range. Using a 32-bit RISC processor and improved power
technology, the DMC-300xx provides higher speed, better power efficiency and
smaller size than their prior generation controllers. The DMC-300xx is designed
for single-axis motor control applications where compact size, low cost and
remote location are important.
The DMC-300xx is higher speed than Galil's prior generation single-axis
controllers; The 125 µs servo loop update time is twice as fast and the 15 MHz
encoder frequency and 3 MHz stepper pulse output are 25% faster.
The DMC-30012 model is packaged with an 800 W amplifier for driving brushless
servo motors at 20–80 VDC, up to 10 A continuous, 15 A peak. The fully digital,
transconductance amplifier is a sinusoidally commutated brushless motor
amplifier which minimizes torque ripple compared to drives using trapezoidal
commutation. This is especially important for applications using low friction
linear motors. The amplifier provides commands for initialization of the
brushless motor using either hall sensors or encoder feedback.
Other features of the DMC-300xx motion controller include PID compensation with
velocity and acceleration feedforward, non-volatile memory for user programs,
multitasking for simultaneously running up to four programs, and I/O processing
for synchronizing motion with external events. Modes of motion include
point-to-point positioning, position tracking, jogging, contouring, electronic
gearing, ECAM, and PVT.

Zaber Releases New Low and High Vacuum Stages and
Actuators

• Only a 5 pin feed-through
is required to operate multiple Zaber positioners in a vacuum chamber.
*See below for more details.
• The high-vacuum units are vacuum rated to 10^-6 torr. All components
are chosen for low out-gassing and low CVCM.
• The low-vacuum units are vacuum rated to 10^-3 torr and use vacuum
compatible greases and epoxies. All have non-anodized components.
• You can easily make Zaber's devices do a complicated series of moves
with our free software.
• You don't need to worry about finding the right accessories. With the
kit version, you get a power supply, data cables, and a serial adapter.
The only other thing that you may need is a T-USB , which converts a USB
port into an RS 232 serial port.
• Installation is easy as 1-2-3: Connect the device to your computer;
connect the power supply to your device; send instructions to your
device from the computer.
*More Details:
Reduce Wiring/Feedthroughs by daisy-chaining devices with built-in
controllers inside the vacuum chamber: Two or more devices can be
daisy-chained inside a vacuum chamber, eliminating the need for extra
feedthroughs. Just solder the signal wires directly from one device to the
next in the chain. In addition, you can transmit power though data cables:
Power to vacuum devices is transmitted through the data cables, eliminating
the need for extra feedthroughs. A Zaber T-DSUB9-P (included with kits) is
used to splice the power into the data cable - it is connected to the data
cable outside the vacuum chamber

Power Supplies & Accessories
Servo2Go.com offers a variety of power supplies to power
your servo or stepper drives. Sizes range from 300W continuous to over 35kW
peak power. Selecting the correct power supply is as simple as specifying
the correct voltage and picking a model that can supply enough power.
In addition to voltage and power, isolation is a very important
consideration. For safe and reliable operation, either the drive or the
power supply must have isolation. In the drive, isolation takes the form of
optical isolators that isolate the signal ground from the power ground. In
the power supply, isolation takes the form of an isolation transformer that
isolates the input AC from the power supply output.
If the drive datasheet does not specify optical isolation then you must use
a power supply with an isolation transformer.

Positioning Systems

Zaber Technologies of Vancouver, British Columbia
manufacture a comprehensive line of computer controlled linear actuators,
linear slides, rotary stages & motorized mirror mounts. Most Zaber products
have built-in controllers and can be daisy-chained and controlled from a
single serial port. Whether you need a single device or want to seamlessly
combine several units in a multi-axis set-up, Zaber’s motion control
equipment is ideal for a broad range of precision positioning applications.
Zaber Technologies was founded in 1997 by a group of friends with diverse
interests and knowledge of electro-mechanical systems, programming, and
physics.
Back then, precision linear actuators all used DC motors with gearbox and
encoders, and they required complicated motion control cards, bulky
controllers, separate driver amplifiers, and special power supplies.
Precision motion control was expensive, difficult to set up, and cumbersome
to use.
Zaber's founders recognized the need for an inexpensive, integrated solution
for motion control. They wanted to make motion control products that were
easy to set up and ready to use right out of the box, so they created the
world's first precision linear actuator with a built-in controller. It was
based on a stepper motor instead of a DC motor, gearbox, and encoder
combination. The integration of all control and drive electronics in the
same package became the foundation of Zaber's ever-expanding T-Series
product line.
Since the introduction of the T-LA28, Zaber has expanded the T-Series family
to over 100 motion control products, which are distributed worldwide.
Zaber continue to advance their in-house manufacturing processes allowing
them to build, test and ship most of their products in 3-5 days.

Actuators

Dyadic's Mechatronics Cylinders feature a motor, encoder,
drive and actuator in one integral package. Dyadic has developed the linear
actuator drive mechanism such that the screw and nut are optimized for high
accuracy, long life and low cost while delivering high speed and peak
thrust. This blend of low-cost and high performance could only have been
realized by the advanced technology of Dyadic Systems. These new product
concepts give engineers a wider range of options to eliminate over-design.
Mechatronics Cylinders are available in a range of stroke lengths and are
constructed using an extruded aluminum body with 303 stainless for the shaft
and rod tip. Actuators can easily be operated via 24VDC signals from PLCs or
relays, and can be connected in networks of up to 16 axes.
Servo Actuators from Dyadic feature:
- Set up many moves, each with individual values for position, speed, accel,
etc.
- Electric actuators - programmable in 15 minutes!
Moves can be relative, absolute, force controlled, and more
- All actuators run on 24VDC - easy to connect to your existing power
supply!
- 10,000km (400 million inches) standard minimum life
- Air cylinder replacement mode and move sequencing available in the
cylinder!

Encoders

PT Series Encoders-
When mounted to any rotating shaft, the PT Series Encoder provides a single
or dual channel square wave output for speed/position control. The Encoder
can be used to supply digital feedback for motor speed control and speed
indication. The small size of the PT Series Encoder (2.0" dia., 900" long)
makes it easy to use where space is limited. The hollow shaft design is easy
to mount with no coupling or tedious alignment procedures.
PM Series Encoders-
When mounted to any rotating shaft, the PM Series Encoder provides a single
or dual channel square wave output for speed/position control. The Encoder
can be used to supply digital feedback for motor speed control and speed
indication. The small size of the PM Series Encoder makes it easy to use
where space is limited. The Screw Mount design has a 10-32 threaded shaft
that is easy to mount. Special mounting brackets and couplings are not
required. The Face Mount design has three tapped mounting holes and a
snychro groove.
