The KOMET TwinKom® G04 lets you create big solutions with compact technology. The G04 double cutter makes light work of boring through-holes, blind holes – on angled or convex surfaces – and holes with cross bores, as well as combinations of the above. The tool diameter is manually adjusted on the tool presetting device simply by undoing the clamping plate and turning the adjustment screws. This moves the pair of cutting edge holders into the required position.

              BENEFITS TO YOU
              • Easy-to-adjust diameter using the clamping plate
              • No axial adjustment

            • Insert technology for roughing and finishing in one step

The challenge which must be met by tools enabling roughing and finishing in a single process is to achieve the required roundness and concentricity, taking account of the high cutting performance and the associated forces. For this reason, such tools are normally fitted with guide pads; however, these can lead to problems during machining.

The newly developed roughing/finishing tools are based on an innovation in indexable insert technology, which makes it possible not only to bore, but to finish as well using economical, multi-bladed indexable inserts. Thanks to an innovative cutting head geometry with support land, previously commonplace guide rails are a thing of the past.

              BENEFITS TO YOU
              • Two processes in one – roughing and finishing
              • Uses economical inserts with four edges

An eccentric clamping device in the holder minimises tool change times and ensures that the cutting edge is positioned accurately in the optimum setting. The insertion surface on the shank of the turning tool is foolproof to ensure that, when changing inserts, the new insert is fitted in the correct position every time. At a shank diameter of 4 mm, two coolant slots positioned axially in the holder provide optimal cooling of the cutting edge for both the left and right boring bars. In all turning tools with a shank size of 8 mm, coolant is fed through the clamping shank.

The combination of knowledge and experience gained with the previous product line has enabled us to systematically develop the first-cut geometry and achieve incredibly high cutting performance in various different materials – even those hardened up to HRC62. At the same time, the modified cutting edge pitch reduces chatter marks and improves chip formation. In addition to optimal cutting edge cooling, the targeted coolant also aids the smooth evacuation of chips that are formed. A high-performance coating completes the new design and can be used for various different materials, thus also contributing to longer tool life, for example as a result of significantly improved wear resistance.

In this context, special mention must be made of the wear resistance against build-up on the cutting edge and therefore the outstanding potential applications involving hypereutectic aluminium and fibre-reinforced plastics. In conjunction with the very smooth surfaces of the cutting bodies, the extraordinarily sharp cutting edges ensure that tool life is extremely long and that cutting values are higher than those of carbide tools.

                                  • Reaming with adjustable inserts

The new reamers from KOMET® which boast individually adjustable inserts are an alternative to the ready-to-use ground tool variants. These reamers also feature multiple blades and offer maximum flexibility, reduce logistics with regard to retipping and enable cost savings thanks to the favourably priced inserts which are available from stock. The single-blade inserts are screwed in place and setto a diameter and tapering using a newly developed fine adjustment system for indexable inserts with μm accuracy. This makes hole tolerances of M IT5 easily achievable. The reference dimension is provided by two measuring blocks. Only 14 inserts for the diameter range of 40 to 140 mm. Maximum flexibility in terms of fields of application, availability and variety of cutting materials and coatings are features of this tool, because certain components, tolerances, volumes, etc., often determine which combinations are used.

                                    • KOMET DIHART DAH® 50 HS compensating holders

                                    • KOMET DIHART DAH® 50 HS compensating holders ensure that the tool runs concentrically. They allow for precision adjustment of the tool to the nearest μm on the cutting edge, thus eliminating spindle errors on the machine. Having the highest concentricity quality makes it possible to reliably produce the tightest tolerances. The smooth running of the tools also substantially increases the tool life. The drilling quality is considerably improved, as are the surface finish, circularity, cylindricity and, most importantly of all, the dimensional accuracy.

This significantly increases the process capability of reamers that have multiple cutting edges.

Threading gives us a chance to show off our creative side. Our aspirations form the basis of pioneering developments, such as bore thread milling cutters, which combine continuous drilling, counterboring and thread milling in a single tool. These are just two of the numerous innovations that we have provided to rise to the challenges our customers have issued us and make their manufacturing processes significantly more dynamic. For only those who know what lies ahead can step up their demands on threading.

                                      • In thread milling, the thread is produced by doing a helical interpolation. The cutting process enables the production of threads from a nominal diameter of 1 mm (single profile), with multi-profile from M2. Some tools are also equipped with countersinkers and/or face cutters.

                                          • High Performance Cutting

Threads in steel are milled for reasons relating to repeat accuracy and quality requirements. However, this procedure requires more time than conventional procedures such as tapping and forming, especially for small diameters of up to M16.The process is determined by the cutting speed and feed rate. To achieve significantly faster machining times despite these parameters, the number of cutting edges must be increased. We have achieved this with the MGF HPC.

                                          • Thread milling tool with deburring edge

During the thread-milling operation itself, the  KOMET  JEL®  MKG  thread milling cutter with deburring cutting edge removes the otherwise uncompleted part at the start of the thread – without taking any extra time. This is particularly appreciated during work on hydraulic systems when, for reasons of maintenance, parts have to be fitted and removed relatively frequently. This uncompleted part is thereby prevented from becoming detached, entering the system and causing damage.

                                                • n contrast to thread cutting, no chips are produced when threads are made using thread formers. Materials with a breaking elongation >5% and a tensile strength <1000 N/mm² are suitable for when forming threads. Formed threads have a smoother surface and greater tensile strength under dynamic stress than cut threads. Solid carbide thread formers have a tool life that is up to 20 times longer than those made of HSS-E.

                                                        • Modern CNC machines allow synchronous thread tapping without a compensating chuck, also called "rigid tapping". The backlash of the spindle causes stress to one side of the cut tap or form tap, respectively. This may result in a reduced tool life and lack of quality in the surface of the thread. KOMET JEL synchro tapping chucks compensate for the length errors caused by the backlash and create the prerequisites for achieving optimum performance from your tapping tools.

                                                            • When it comes to issues relating to energy, energy conservation and energy efficiency, the lightweight construction segment is becoming increasingly important. Composite materials are winning increasingly larger shares of the market at a rapid pace. In light of this requirement, the KOMET GROUP has developed a brand new class of tools distinguished by their innovative geometry, suitability for new machining strategies involving very high cutting parameters and also by the use of intelligent cutting materials.
                                                                • NCD Composite multi-tooth milling cutter

                                                              • Use of PCD monotools in the production of aluminium components is wide spread. This system is distinguished by the minimum effort required to set an increased number of teeth, as well as its long service life and very low roughness depths.

If, however, areas of surface roughness are required or need to be even rougher than the very good standard surfaces produced during PCD machining, then PCD tools often meet their limits.

This can be remedied with a PCD auxiliary cutter(s) individually adapted to the application situation, which can also be fitted retroactively in existing standard tools.
                                                                  • KOMET JEL® HPC PCD screw-in cutter

                                                                    • KOMET UniTurn®

                                                                    • The KOMET  UniTurn®  range of turning tools boast an extremely rigid union between the turning tool and the clamping holder.

                                                                      BENEFITS TO YOU

As a general rule, we make a distinction between permanently installed KomDrive, and exchangeable KomTronic® systems.
                                                                      • Mechatronic tools

                                                                      • Mechatronic Actuating tools

The successful KomTronic® U-axis system is a modular system that offers users greater flexibility and broadens the options available on machining centres and special machinery.
                                                                          • KomTronic® U-axis system: Turning on machining centres

                                                                          • TOOL-CHANGEABLE NC AXES FOR MACHINING CENTRES

The freely programmable KomTronic® U-Axis system make any contour and turning operations possible on non-rotationally symmetrical parts.

Combined with custom-made front tools and the optimum selection of inserts, contours in bores and external machining operations can be successfully carried out. This allows a considerable reduction in production times, with better surface quality and greater accuracy of form. Further savings in time and costs can also be achieved by reducing the number of tools previously required - for example, circular milling a complex internal contour with various form milling tools. The saving in form milling tools and tool changes this achieves also reduces production time and production costs.

                                                                          • This combination allows machining centres to be used for path-controlled honing, too. This has enormous economic and quality-related advantages. Honing is a fine machining process for the high-precision machining of cylindrical or slightly out-of-round holes that must have optimum surface sliding properties. The material is removed with honing stones with an abrasive coating. In order to do this extremely precisely, the honing stone retainer of the Xstep® honing tools, whose outer surface line reproduces the cylinder to be machined, are very finely adjusted mechanically to compensate for wear on the honing stone retainer and the required removal of material. The positioning measurement is determined by means of a measurement step following honing (post-process measurement), whereby the process itself is always terminated at the same end diameter and it is only necessary to compensate for the wearing of the honing stones.

The control system can respond to the measurement data immediately, providing accuracy to +/- 3 µm and thereby enabling outstanding machining quality to be achieved.

As the interface between the tool and the machine, adapters have a great influence on the result and the economy of the complete machining process. KOMET® tool adapters offer a comprehensive range for every requirement.
                                                                                • ABS® Adapter

                                                                                • One benefit of the new version of the KOMET ABS® connection is substantially higher clamping forces. It is fully compatible with the existing system, and also matches the original's high precision demands. In tooling systems, the tool adapter is an important element between the tool and machine.

It must be able to transfer the machining forces safely. Moreover, tool adapters greatly influence the quality of the machining result. They also contribute to a cost efficient machining process. KOMET ABS® connections form a modular coupling system for rotating and stationary tools. The interface system is designed according to the modular principle. In this way, users can quickly make use of modular metal cutting tools, extensions and adaptors in a cost-effective manner. Since its launch by KOMET® in 1981, the system has become established globally. It has fully developed components for each requirement.
