silicon solar cells
Automation systems for the production of solar cells |
Manz has worked
for many years creating automation solutions for solar cell manufacturing and
has contributed significantly to the trends of this young industry with
innovative system solutions. Manz systems are used in wide-ranging installations
for the production of silicon wafers, manufacturing of solar cells as well as
for the final assembly of solar modules.
Both in the field of glass substrate handling for thin film solar modules and
also in the manufacture of solar modules based on silicone solar cells, Manz
Automation AG offers highly efficient and innovative automation systems.
Systems for drawing the silicone tubes and subsequent laser cutting were
developed for the manufacture of so-called hand-drawn silicone wafers (EFG
wafers) in close cooperation with the company RWE-Schott-Solar.
Another focus of our operations in this field lies in the automatic loading and
unloading of process plants for the manufacture of silicone solar cells.
Precise, high-speed robot systems used in conjunction with high-performance
image processing systems permit cycle times of less than 1.5 seconds with only
minimal breakage rates. |

| Innovative handling
systems for LCD production |
For over ten
years, Manz Automation AG has been a supplier of innovative automation systems
for glass substrate handling.
Manufacturing of LCD displays takes place under extreme cleanroom conditions.
Stringent quality stipulations call for automated handling of the glass
substrates. Handling glass panels measuring up to 4 square meters in a thickness
of only 0,7 mm poses a particular challenge.
In close cooperation with customers and manufacturers of processing
equipment, Manz has developed innovative handling systems for this application
which fully comply with the stringent demands made on absolute purity, strict
precision and minimum glass breakage.

|
 |
LCD manufacturing - process and handling automation
It concentrates particularly on applications relating to the manufacture of
the color filters used as the front film in TFT LCD flat screen
monitors. Most systems installed in Japan, Korea and Taiwan are used for the
automatic loading and unloading of inline sputter plants from the Applied
Films Corporation. Manz Automation AG is Taiwan's market leader in
this segment.
Other automation solutions have been implemented for the packaging of LCD
substrates as well as the automation of laser cutting parts and for Basler
inspection systems.
|
|
|
 |
Customer-specific automation solutions based on
standardized robot systems
Based on standardized robot systems, customer-specific automation solutions
are also developed. Special handling and transport systems have been
developed for handling glass substrates, which are now produced in
extremely large surface area dimensions of as great as2800mm x 2500mm.
In close cooperation with one of the world's leading robot manufacturers
KUKA, a 6-axis industrial robot with an arm length of 3100 mm was modified
for use in a class 100 cleanroom environment.

|
|
Solid carbid tools
Automated handling of small components |
One of our key
areas of competence lies in the handling of carbide indexable inserts used for
machining metal, stone and wood.
The benefits of combined robotics plus vision are fully brought to bear in
applications involving a high number of variants. The use of optical position
recognition instead of mechanical centering and alignment units permits even
minimal batch sizes to be economically produced.
