Two new high-precision robots

DENSO has added two new models to its line of high-speed, high-precision robots.


The new robots are: VM-6083D, a mid-sized vertical articulated robot with a high operation speed, high load capacity, and a maximum reach of 1,000 mm, and XYC-4D, a compact high-rigidity Cartesian coordinate, four-axis robot. Both models offer improved ease-of-use by using new high-performance controllers. 

Both VM-6083D and XYC-4D will be introduced on May 1, 2000 (*1) through DENSO FA sales agents all over Japan. The new robots will also be available in the other Asian countries, North America, and Europe. Contacts in these regions are listed on the last page.

Features of the VM-6083D mid-sized vertical articulated robot:

  1. A maximum reach of 1,000 mm (new feature)

    Added to the conventional VM series with maximum reaches of 900 mm and 1,300 mm, the VM-6083D's maximum reach of 1,000 mm enables users to select the type of robot best suited to their working environment.
     

  2. Slim arm

    The slim arm, measuring only 130 mm in width, contributes to size reductions and minimizes interference with peripheral equipment.
     

  3. High maximum transportable weight

    The maximum loading weight of 10 kg is suitable for transporting heavy loads.
     

  4. Delicate operations (new feature)

    Delicate operations can be realized by changing the robot program alone. The following functions eliminate the need for the buffer spring and the workpiece detecting sensor that have been required for preventing the damage of the equipment, and realize the simplification of production tooling.

    ï Force Limiting Function: Protects the workpiece from damage by adjusting the force. 

    ï Floating Function: Permits a "compliance motion" as it follows an external force. When the robot is pushed by other equipment, it can produce a motion that follows the movement of the equipment.
     

  5. High-performance controller

    This controller offers extensive built-in features in the smallest-in-class size (430 x 157 x 382 mm [WxHxD]).

    ï Multitasking function

    Peripheral equipment can be controlled without sequencers(*3), which reduces installation cost.

    ï Built-in vision system (optional)

    The optional high-speed, high-precision vision system can be integrated into the controller. It is programmable with the same language used for the robot. The vision system also makes possible advanced assembly work.

    ï DeviceNet(*4) Compatibility

    The controller is compatible with DeviceNet, an open industrial network. It permits equipment interconnection with a single cable, reducing not only the man-hours required for wiring, but also the wire requirements. This ensures easy equipment installation and maintenance. Moreover, the open communication specifications enables interchangeability of devices from different manufacturers in the world.

    ï Network functions

    The controller permits transmission and reception of programs and data to and from the PC teaching support system (optional), as well as real-time monitoring of the status of robots in service. This considerably extends the communications capabilities of a personal computer and improves operation efficiency. The optional Ethernet connectivity also permits higher-speed communications.


Features of the XYC-4D Cartesian coordinate four-axis robot:

  1. High-performance controller 

    This controller offers various features not available with conventional XYC-line robots. (For further details, see feature No. 5 of Model VM-6083D above.)
     

  2. High maximum transportable weight

    The robot employs a high-rigidity slide unit and compact high-power AC servomotor. In addition, its maximum transportable weight is 10 kg – the highest in its class.
     

  3. Compact design

    The space-saving motion mechanism and the flat cable contribute to the highest level of size reduction in the industry. This innovation allows installation in limited space and contributes to more compact systems.

  4. Insertion-force control function for delicate operations.

    This feature enables the operator to adjust the power and flexibility of the robot's driving force as desired simply by limiting the motor current. Full power is available for high-speed, high-load operations, while low power is available for more delicate operations.


DENSO now offers a wide selection of 13 lines of robots in Japan, including VM and XYC lines, to meet the most diverse market needs. DENSO will continue to develop a variety of robots designed to meet the needs of the customer, now and in the future.

(*2) The prices are DENSO's suggested retail prices excluding consumption tax with the Japanese specifications for the Japanese market.

(*3) Sequencer is a controlling device that operates each step of controlling procedure in predetermined order.

(*4) A device network is an open network standard developed by Rockwell Automation Corp. of the U.S.A. that permits connections between various devices such as sensors and actuators.
