Mobile Highlights
TALOS
@ Sapienza Università di Roma
- TALOS is a tracked mobile robot with two tracked bogies
at the sides and four active tracked flippers placed at the front and rear,
that endow it with increased mobility in rough terrain. It is equipped with
active and passive sensors, namely, a rotating 2D SICK LMS-100 Laser, a
Ladybug3 Omnidirectional camera, an inertia measurement unit (IMU) from
Xsense, GPS and an on-board quad-core computer.
NASA Mars Rover 2009
@ University of Michigan
- NASA-funded project aimed at developing a high-accuracy
dead-reckoning system for the Mars Rover 2009 mission.
We built "Fluffy," a fully functional 1/2-scale clone of the NASA Fido-class
Mars Rovers.
We implemented our Fuzzy Logic Expert Rule-based navigation (FLEXnav) method
on Fluffy.
We optimized the FLEXnav system for the unique wheel slippage conditions on
sandy soil.
Main Innovation: Wheel slippage detection and correction by slippage
monitoring
Black Knight
@ Carnegie Mellon University
- The National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC) developed
sensing, teleoperation and autonomy packages for BAE Systems' Black Knight,
a prototype unmanned ground combat vehicle (UGCV).
Black Knight demonstrates how UGCVs can be used in the field and showcases
current robotics technologies. NREC applied its expertise in sensor fusion,
unmanned systems, obstacle detection, path planning, autonomy and
teleoperation to improve Black Knight's mission performance and support
Soldier operation.
Skiing Robot
@ Josef Stefan Institute
- We designed a special 3 degrees of freedom robot
dedicated for skiing using the carving technique. The robot has a complex
sensory and control system that assures stabilization on the ski slope
during skiing and tracks a path marked with race gates and avoids obstacles
Robotic Home Assistants
@ Fraunhofer IPA
-
For more than ten years, Fraunhofer IPA is working on the development of a
mobile robot assistant Care-O-bot® able to assist humans in their daily
life. The meanwhile third generation of this successful development series
is characterized by a product like system design and for the first time
provides the potential to apply manipulating mobile service robots in
everyday environments. By using industrial components approved in daily
practice the dependability of the system can be ensured.
µAUV
@ University of Bremen
- Exploration of the world's oceans and the ocean floor has
barely scratched the surface. One explanation for this are the harsh
conditions encountered by scientific instruments when deployed into the
depths of the sea. The extreme pressures, the total darkness, the need to
communicate via broad band (possible only over cable), and the high
logistical costs all complicate the deep-sea use of technical systems.
