MARINE SOLUTIONS
Like virtually all other industries, ship builders, owners and operators are seeking innovative ways to increase system reliability, security and efficiency. Whether you are operating a cruise ships or a war ship, your cargo is precious and your operating costs are increasing.

AMSC is truly a holistic provider of power solutions. Our capabilities don’t end with generation, transmission or delivery – our solutions extend to end use. For the marine sector, our power management, propulsion and defense solutions are designed to help customers increase system efficiencies, enhance power quality and boost reliability and security. Our offerings for the marine industry include:

Power Conversion Solutions
Our power conversion systems enable more stable power supplies for a variety of vessels, from commercial tug boats to navy warships.
Motors and Generators
Employing our proprietary superconductor wire, marine motors and generators are incredibly compact, efficient and power dense propulsion systems.
Degaussing Systems
Employing our proprietary superconductor wire, today’s naval ships are beginning to employ lightweight and highly efficient 21st century “cloaking” systems.
Superconductor Wire & Coils
We offer proprietary wire and coils that are ideally suited for marine applications, such as motors, generators and degaussing systems.

HTS WIRE
AMSC’s high temperature superconductor (HTS) Amperium™ wire conducts more than 100 times the electrical current of copper wire of similar dimensions. The second generation (2G) wire is available in both copper (Cu) and brass laminate.

HTS Wire: Compact, Versatile, Efficient, Strong.

Brass
Used in high-current AC or DC cable applications, such as power transmission and distribution, high-capacity Amperium wire offers a significant increase in the amount of power that can be carried regardless of voltage. Amperium wire’s unique laminated construction combined with the dual impedance characteristic of superconductors, allows for the construction of cables with intrinsic fault current limiting capability. This provides high capacity under normal conditions and high resistance during fault conditions. AMSC’s brass laminated superconductor wire provides high strength and stability with ease of stranding and handling.
Copper
Used in power dense coils for applications such as synchronous motors, generators and magnets, our copper laminated Amperium wire can dramatically reduce the size and weight of large-scale electrical equipment. This product provides significantly greater power throughput and efficiency as well as high strength and stability with outstanding bend tolerance.

POWER CONVERTERS
The demand for power conversion is ever increasing. Major drivers for this rise in demand include the growth of distributed generation systems and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, higher system efficiency requirements, and increased demand for higher levels of power quality and power reliability.

AMSC’s cost-effective power converters have customizable configurations that enable end users to rapidly develop power systems that will get their products to market faster and maintain their competitive edge.

PowerModule™ power converters can reduce the cost and cycle time associated with developing a power conversion system. This reduction in time can provide earlier revenue realization, taking on additional projects, or further design refinement. Regarded as a standard, proven building block, PowerModule power converters have been utilized in thousands of wind turbines and grid interconnection solutions supporting gigawatts of renewable power around the world.

PowerModule power converters support a systematic development approach by reducing the amount of unknown variables. They can be quickly configured to meet both your hardware and software needs, making them ideal platforms for evaluating new technologies in power switches, thermal designs and control strategies. As a result, you can focus on key technology unknowns, accelerating the development of electric power systems and offering a cost-effective core component for volume production.

PowerModule PM1000 and PM3000 Series
The AMSC PM1000 and PM3000 power converters are a fully integrated, intelligent and modular systems that significantly reduce development costs and time to market for power systems across a wide spectrum of industries and applications.
PM1000 series -- 150 kW to 500 kW.
PM3000 series -- 500 kW to 1 MW.
PowerModule System Developer Kits
The AMSC PowerModule System Developer Kit (SDK) provides users with the ability to unlock the versatility of our PM1000 and PM3000 power converters and rapidly develop and launch numerous custom power system applications.

Using the PowerVisum™ graphical user interface (GUI), you can quickly configure, monitor, troubleshoot and command individual power processors in one or more PowerModule converters using the standard software application modules for converting AC-DC, DC-DC, DC-AC or AC-AC.

The PowerVisum GUI provides an intuitive interface on your computer for programming, setting up the converter parameters, passing parameters back to the user interface for display or calculations, and controlling the system by the operator. Through the PowerVisum GUI, you can integrate, diagnose and reconfigure a PowerModule power conversion system in real time.
