Precision Reducers
Nabtesco component sets are comprised of a two-stage cycloidal construction which works with extreme precision. Its key features
are reduced vibrations and inertia as well as very high reduction ratios.
The typical load transmission over rollers assures a high degree of
efficiency and long service life. The breakaway torque is very low. The
compact cycloidal construction enables high torques and extreme impact
loads. The continuous contact between the pins and eccentric disc reduce the
backlash to less than one angular minute. The result is a very high
torsional rigidity. The degree of efficiency of the gear is 85 per cent.
The gears of the series RV-C, RV-E, RV-F, RV-N and NT are additionally
distinguished by their integrated angular ball bearings. Therefore, a
customer-provided bearing and the associated production expenditure for the
bearing supports can be dispensed with. The gears operate more reliably and
with greater precision - at reduced overall costs.

Precision Reducer RV-E Seriess - For demanding drive
tasks

RV-E gears are the right choice for demanding drive tasks. If high
torsional rigidity and tilt stability, as well as a compact design with
large reductions are required, this is the solution.
The RV-E series combines the RV gears with large, integrated angular ball
bearings. They absorb extreme forces and torques. An additional external
bearing is unnecessary. The result is precision gears in a compact design
with extreme rigidity and a permanently constant operating behaviour. The
nearly one-hundred-percent contact within the trochoidal pin construction
and the even distribution of force within the gear enable a high load with
little play. Thanks to this design, the RV-E gear achieves a high level or
repeat accuracy and path accuracy. In the zero crossing of the hysteresis
the maximum opening is one angular minute.

RV-C gears have a hollow shaft through which power supply cables, drive
shafts, etc. can be fed. Their design is otherwise identical to that of the
RV-E series. RV-C component sets are therefore just as compact and
efficient as RV-E gears.

The RV series serves as the foundation of the entire Nabtesco product range.
RV gears are components sets without integrated angular ball bearings. Due
to the external bearing, they are very compact and are distinguished by
their high torsional rigidity. The customer is free to choose the type of
output bearing.
The power transmission takes place through rollers. In doing so, the gear
has a high degree of efficiency, a long service life and extremely low
backlash. The nearly symmetrical gear construction and the roller bearing
support of all shafts guarantee a constant operating behaviour over the
entire service life. In addition, it enables momentary load peaks of up to
five times the indicated rated torque, which could arise in emergency stop
situations, for example.

RV-N Series - Compact high performer
Based on the RV-E series, Nabtesco developed especially compact, light and
powerful gears for the robotics industry: the RV-N series.
They are used wherever high torque ratings are required, yet little space is
available. The compact design is achieved through a main bearing with
integrated inner ring. The reinforcement of the eccentric shaft bearing
produces a very high power density. In addition, all gear components were
FEA optimised and subjected to special heat tempering.

RV-F Series - Higher reduction, lower
seal expenditure
The RV-F series gears are an additional variant of the RV-E series. Nabtesco
develops these gears specially for use in robotics. Their typical design
feature is the sealed output side. A double oil seal prevents the
penetration of fluids and other media into the gear, thus achieving
protection class IP 67. The seal expenditure for the customer is lower than
for conventional gears.
52 pins in the housing of the cam disc of the RV-F gears produces a higher
reduction in the cycloidal stage than with RV-E gears (40 pins).
In comparison to the RV-E series, the RV-F gears have:
- a 20 per cent higher power density,
- a 30 per cent higher reduction and
- a 5db lower noise level.

NT Series - Hollow shaft gears for NC rotary tables

| Rated torque |
Max. speed |
Torsional rigidity |
weight |
| 1471 to 2059 Nm |
70 rpm |
19613 - 34323 Nm/arcmin |
160 to 220 Kg |
High precision, high output speeds and a high degree of efficiency -
these are the demands a drive unit should live up to for use in rotary
tables. The NT series from Nabtesco meets these requirements. Thanks to
their RV gear design, the NT reduction gears are extremely resistant to
impact loads. The hollow shaft enables the central routeing of various
cables, media or rotary movements. The contact between the trochoidal disc
and housing takes place through rollers. This reduces the wear and increases
the service life and reliability.
The NT gears offer additional decisive advantages over conventional rotary
table drives:
- The output achieves and output speed of 100 rpm.
- The gears achieve a degree of efficiency of 80 per cent.
- The reproducibility lies at +/- 1.0 arc second.
- The indexing precision is +/- 2.5 arc seconds.
- The assembly times are reduced, because neither an adjustment of the
backlash nor the pre-tensioning or the adjustment of the concentricity
is necessary.

Gearhead sets
Nabtesco gear heads are a closed gear filled with
lubricant and ready for installation. They are based on the various Nabtesco
component sets and are distinguished by their design features and
advantages.
Easy installation
All gear heads form a completely enclosed assembly. The basic equipment
includes an adapter plate for the motor and a motor shaft coupling for servo
motors. In doing so, the gears can be installed quickly and easily - as well
as affordably.
The large, integrated angular ball bearings of the gears absorb external
forces and moments. This makes an additional, customer-provided bearing
unnecessary. Construction and assembly times are reduced. The total costs
are lowered.

The RD-E gear integrates the performance and precision of the RV-E
component sets in a ready-to-install gear head. In addition to high torques
and reduction ratios, the two-stage cycloidal construction also provides
excellent impact resistance and the highest level of precision. The large,
integrated angular ball bearings absorb external forces and moments. This
makes an additional, customer-provided bearing unnecessary. Construction and
assembly times are reduced. The total costs are lowered.
High impact load, rigidity, precision and high torque
The double bearing and the unique RV mechanism comprising rollers and RV
gear provide the following advantages:
- Suitable for impact loads up to 5 times the rated torque

The RD-C gear heads are based on the RV-C component sets. Like these sets,
the gear heads have an end-to-end hole with a main support bearing. Cables,
lines, shafts or lasers can be routed through this hollow shaft with a
diameter of up to 150 millimetres. With the eccentrically connected drive,
more reduction ratios can be realised than with centred assembly. This often
makes upstream planetary gears unnecessary.

Vigogrease RE 0
Vigogrease RE0 is the further development of our
lubricant Molywhite RE00. The new mixture ratio of additive takes into
account the elevated requirements on environmental compatibility and health
protection. Vigogrease has a higher viscosity based on the new mixture. As a
result, the shear stability of the lubricant and the temperature behaviour
of the gear were improved. Despite the higher viscosity, the startup
efficiency of Vigogrease was also improved by 5 per cent in comparison to
Molywhite.

Applications
The field of application for Nabtesco precision gears
is broad. They are used wherever precise positioning is required: in
robotics and handling, in wind power plants, medical technology and in
machinery for tool manufacture. On the following pages we present some
typical applications.
|
|
|
|
Robots - Correctly painted

Modern, fully-automatic painting lines for the
automotive, telecommunications or aircraft industry are highly specialised
systems. The requirements for the painting technique and thus the robots
which are used vary depending on the industry and the application. However,
one factor is always the same: While emphasis is primarily placed on precise
repetition and pinpoint placement of heavy loads for pick and place
applications in the handling area, a painting robot may never deviate from
the specified path. This must also take place at a specific speed with
absolute precision. Even the slightest vibrations or fluctuations in
velocity result in uneven colour application and a poor first-run rate. In a
concrete application, the Nabtesco precision gear RV-100C with a hollow
shaft diameter of 71 mm proved to be the ideal choice. The large hollow
shaft could be used to route the supply lines.
In addition, the gear had all the impressive features which have made
Nabtesco the world market leader:
- High transmission precision
- Vibration-free through two-stage reduction
- Backlash well below one angular minute
- Reliable and wear-resistant
- Double-end support and a symmetric gear design
- High rigidity
- Shock load resistance of up to five times the rated torque
- Integrated angular ball bearings

Solar systems - Reliable and precise panel tracking
Many photovoltaic - or solar thermal energy systems -
however, primarily solar power tower plants - track the sun with their
panels. Along with a high level of efficiency of the panels, a continuously
precise and reliable tracking are indispensable for a fast ROI and
continuous, maintenance-free operation.
Based on its RV series, Nabtesco developed a series of gears specially
adapted to the requirements of tracking systems - the STG series. These
gears for the azimuth axis are suitable for collector surface areas of 20 to
120 m². Thanks to their non-self-locking power transmission, they easily
absorb shock loads from wind gusts, etc. This spares the mechanical
components. The trochoidal gears are maintenance-free until the typical oil
change intervals.
- Reductions of up to 1:50,000 can be achieved
- Degree of efficiency > 80 %
- Lower energy requirement than conventional worm gear solutions

|
|
|
Packaging industry - Packaging and palletising
Palletising robots have become a necessity in the
beverage and packaging industry. Not only do they have to be very fast, they
have to precisely position the goods to be packaged or stacked. This
requires reliable gears with a compact size which can sustain high torques
and accelerations with precise positioning – such as the Nabtesco RD series
gears with hollow shaft. The ready-to-install, pre-lubricated gear heads are
equipped on the motor-side flange with an adapter for the most common servo
motors. All supply lines can be routed through the gear thanks to the
large-dimension hollow shaft. Based on their very rigid construction and
high level of precision, the cycloidal gears are especially well suited for
rapid positioning movements with high loads and thus are ideal for the
packaging industry
|
 |
Medical technology - Quiet, safe and precise
Motorised drives provide extreme precision for imaging
processes like X-ray, nuclear spin or ultrasonic examinations. Positioning
precisions in the millimetre range and even smaller are the norm. Since the
machines are used for the examination of people, safety margins take on
great importance in the event of an operational fault.
The compact RV gears from Nabtesco are especially well suited for this
application:
- A low backlash of less than one angular minute makes an essential
contribution to high-quality and detailed physical images
- Very safe with an emergency stop torque up to five times the rated
torque
- Very quiet, "low-noise" variant with angular toothing of the first
gear stage

|
Aerials - High torsional rigidity and tilt stability

The adjustment of external parabolic aerials, such as
those used for communication with satellites close to the Earth, requires
highly precise positioning. This applies both for the azimuth (angle between
the meridan and vertical plane of a celestial body) as well as the elevation
angle. For the control of these aerials with a dish diameter of up to 17
metres, high torsional rigidity and tilt stability with large reductions are
required. For this purpose, the Nabtesco's compact RV gears with or without
a hollow shaft are ideally suited.
Thanks to the unique trochoidal/pin construction, the gears achieve a high
repeat accuracy and path accuracy. This is also indispensable for the
satellite control. The integrated angular ball bearings absorb the forces
and moments of wind gusts and easily support larger aerials. In addition,
the Nabtesco gears combine high rated torques with a backlash well below one
angular minute. In the event of load peaks, such as in emergency stop
situations, they can accommodate five times their rated torque.
|
 |
Handling - Precise palletising
For highly-dynamic, exact handling of pallets, the swivel
axis is of great importance. It is subject to extreme acceleration and
braking torques. These loads are especially high in emergency stop
situations. The backlash of the swivel axis must also be minimised. That is
because with a swivel arm radius of 1.53 metres, for example, even the
slightest angle errors significantly impair the positioning precision.
Therefore, a pivot arm drive must be able to meet the highest demands on
load capacity, reliability and precision. The RV 160-E high-reduction
precision gear from Nabtesco more than satisfies these requirements. Its
arguments:
- Acceleration torque: 3,920 Nm
- Rated torque: 1,568 Nm
- Emergency stop torque: 5 times the rated torque
- Compact diameter: 280 mm
- Reduction ratio: i=171
|
|
|
|
Welding - Pinpoint positioning

Modern robotic welding lines work quickly and with
absolute precision. Positioners and rotary tables assure the exact alignment
of workpieces. A gear provides the drive of the horizontal rotary axis for
the rotary welding tables. In this manner, all welding points lying on this
axis – even complicated geometric structures – can be welded with pinpoint
precision in the tenth of a millimetre range without having to unclamp and
reclamp the workpiece. In the process, the weld pool must always be held
exactly in the pan.
This is only possible if the gear works with absolute precision and
reliability. That way, even the slightest deviations and thus faulty welding
points can be avoided. The sturdy and ultra-precise Nabtesco gears of the
series RV-C, RV-E, RS-A and RD-C are especially well suited for such welding
applications: They are compact, can absorb heavy impact loads and are
distinguished by their low backlash. In addition, cables and supply lines
can be tidily routed through the hollow shaft of the RV-C and RD-C gears.
|
 |
Tool manufacture - Reductions in whole numbers
Precision is everything in tool manufacture Blanks and
tools must be positioned at high speeds with micrometre precision. The
complete machining in one clamping prevents imprecision, which can creep in
through the frequent re-clamping of a workpiece. Compact precision gears
with reduction in whole numbers provide for the exact positioning of the
chain or disc magazine loaded with the various tools. Nabesco designed its
RA series especially for the drive of such magazines in tool manufacture. On
the basis of the reduction by the RA gears in whole numbers, the servo motor
with its input shaft and the drive with the output shaft are always in the
same position. In doing so, an absolutely precise positioning is always
provided. A repetition of imprecisions and their exponentiation through the
continuous rotation of the chain magazine in the same direction are
eliminated.
