Reliance works in conjunction with its customers from diverse markets to design, manufacture and test sub-micron machined components and intricate precision mechatronic assemblies to demanding specifications.

Reliance specialises in the design, manufacture and test of high accuracy electromechanical assemblies. individually designed to meet customer specific requirements, for position measurement and feedback applications in the aerospace, medical, biotechnical, analytical, scientific instrument and defence industries.

Superfine hard boring
Reliance has the capacity to manufacture components in hard materials to superfine tolerances, for example ceramic insulation for quadruple assemblies. Components are produced in a temperature controlled environment with exceptional metrology to control the process.

  • Hole capacity 3mm to 25mm diameter

High vacuum assemblies
Sub-assemblies for quadrupole mass spectrometers, other ion beam handling components and vacuum housings


Since 1984 Reliance has manufactured components and assemblies for use in high vacuums. These include sub-assemblies for quadrupole mass spectrometers, other ion beam handling components and vacuum housings.
 
  • Manufacture of cylindrical rods - in Molybdenum and Stainless Steel. Form errors less than 0.005mm on 12mm diameter x 250mm long components.
  • Diamond Grinding of ceramic materials - diameter tolerance 0.003mm, hole to hole positional tolerance 0.005mm.
  • Helium leak testing - to 10-9 mbar.l/s
 
Quadrupole Mass Filters
Reliance Precision Limited has over 15 yrs experience in the manufacture of Quadrupole Mass Filters (QMF) for mass spectrometers.
Over these years their facilities have evolved into a state of the art quadrupole manufacturing facility with experienced designers, clean room assembly, inspection and precision cleaning.

Integrated Motors - Integrated Servo Motion Control Package
The Reliance Cool Muscle servo motion control package combines an:
  • Intelligent vector driver with a 32 bit RISC CPU,
  • H-infinity tuner,
  • A 50,000 count magnetic encoder,
  • 0-3000 rpm high torque motor
  • Power management

Into one intelligent motion control system, which allows a multitude of functions from just one motor.

Available in NEMA size 11,17 and 23, this neat all in one solution provides a lower cost complete ‘black box’ package, ideal for distributed control systems.

Stepper Motor
Reliance offers stepper motors with modifications to suit specific applications.

Miniature Actuators
Due to their unique miniature size, the linear actuator can be used to reduce size in applications such as precision dispensers, soldering robots, microscopic feeding, fine angular adjustment, rotation control and mirror movement.

The miniature actuator can also be ideal for applications demanding high speed and durability, such as compact high speed component conveyor systems, dose control and desktop robots.
 
Rack Actuators - Racktuator®
The Racktuator® tubular rack actuator enables fluids, tubes or wires to be passed through the assembly, reducing the risk of entanglement, and keeping the system tidy. This along with the compact, lightweight design makes the actuator ideal for medical or scientific such as:

Cool Motion Stage Assembly
Intelligent linear motion, accurate positioning, and long life in a compact assembly

The assembly combines the high speeds, linear accuracy and reliability of a screw driven linear slide with the intelligence of the Reliance Cool Muscle integrated motor

The Reliance Cool Muscle motor encompasses an integrated vector drive, amplifier, H-infinity control, 50,000 count magnetic encoder and a 0-3000 rpm high torque motor into one package.
Gearboxes
Reliance Epicyclic Gearheads for the Cool Muscle Motor

The Reliance Epicyclic Gearheads RGP 40 and RGP 60 are designed to mount to the cool muscle motor for economical drive solutions in automation. The RGP series of planetary gearheads feature honed planet and sun gears increasing input speeds and reducing noise and giving a AGMA 12 + gear quality. All the gears including the ring gear are hardened, this allows for a high load ability, less wear and consistent backlash over the life of the gearhead. All our epicyclic gearheads have four planet gears as apposed to the normal three.

 
Precision Gears
Reliance supplies precision gears, geared mechanisms and electro-mechanical assemblies to the aerospace, medical, biotechnical, analytical, scientific instrument and defence industries.
Racks and Pinions
Reliance standard precision rack is produced by a thread grinding process which generates teeth of helicoidal form.

Manufactured in round, tubular and rectangular section Reliance rack can be used for both measurement and actuation.
Bearings and Shafts
Stainless steel, precision ball bearings to suit shaft Ø2mm to Ø10mm, ABEC 7 as standard

Plain and flanged, bronze and self-lubricating plastic bearings with up to Ø12mm bore

 
Fasteners
Reliance stainless steel fasteners are manufactured from A4-70 cold worked austenitic stainless steel, certified to a minimum of 700MPa tensile strength, while providing the best possible corrosion resistance.

Flexible Shaft Couplings
Flexible shaft couplings are a crucial part of motion control assemblies. They are designed to provide accurate motion between two shafts where a small amount of misalignment exists.

Innovative anti-backlash nut designs provide assemblies which are wear compensating with low frictional drag torques and excellent positional repeatability.

Spline Shafts provide anti-rotation for one axis motion or a drive mechanism with rotation for two axes of motion. They are designed for light to moderate load applications, where low cost, low friction, and long life are primary design considerations.

Description
ScrewRail Actuator Assembly
The ScrewRail® linear actuator includes a precision lead screw integrated within a guide rail, which drives an integrated nut. This assembly combines the seperate functions of drive and guidance in one single coaxial component.


The ScrewRail® eliminates the need for external rail-to-screw alignment and simplifies the design, manufacture and assembly of motion control systems. The combined design saves much of the space used by a two-rail system and is generally less expensive.
