Our products have the following characteristics
- High operating safety
- Above-average lifetime
- Compact design, high power density
- Steady low-noise running
- Optimized efficiency
- High flexibility
The Kissling product portfolio covers many sectors. In addition to a
broad range of standard gear units, we have developed series especially for
various sectors. Our strength is that we can develop and build tailor-made
solutions for small to mid-sized series. We respond to customer desires, but
at the same time, we don't always try to reinvent the wheel. As a result, we
can keep the costs for the adapted solutions under control.
Standards and certification
Our gear units are always designed according to the latest ISO and DIN
standards. We use KissSoft calculation software; this product was originally
developed in our company, and has been developed further and distributed in
an independent company for a few years now. If the customer so desires, the
calculations are also carried out according to AGMA, API or other standards.
ATEX certification for gear units in explosion-endangered areas is becoming
more and more important. Every Kissling gear unit can be built and supplied
with an ATEX certificate. It is important that we are made aware of this as
early as the order tendering phase, so that this can be taken into account
in the calculation. You can find additional information in our ATEX flyer.

Ropeway Gear Units
Since the early 1950s, Kissling has played an active
role in developing and building cable car gear units. In the early phase,
bevel helical gear units were the standard. In the 1970s, Kissling attained
a breakthrough by introducing planetary gear units. These are lighter and
more compact; as a result, they quickly became the sector standard for
continuously running cable cars.

Gearbox solutions for all types of ropeways
Kissling builds the drives for all kinds of cable transport systems. This is
true not only for classic winter sports cable cars, but also for urban
transport systems or shuttle systems for airports.
Traditionally, the sector distinguishes between the following cable
cars/ropeways:
- Continuously running cable cars (permanently attached and
coupling-enabled)
- Fixed-grip ropeways
- Aerial ropeways
- Surface lifts and others

Gearbox ranges PK-21 and 22
A bevel planetary gearbox was developed especially for
continuously running cable cars (chair lifts and cable railways). This is
standardized and has a modular design, so that a high availability of spare
parts can be ensured. Currently, 5 standard sizes have been developed,
covering a torque range up to 800,000 Nm.
- Bevel planetary gear units mainly for continuously running cable cars
- Operating torques up to 800 kNm
- Standardized and with a modular design
- 5 defined sizes: S, M, L, XL and XXL
- High availability of spare parts

Helical gear units
Kissling produces a series of single stage helical gear
units that, depending on the requirements, are singly or doubly helically
toothed as well as friction bearing or antifriction bearing. They cover a
power range of 100 – 8000 KW and attain speeds of up to 60'0000 rpm. If
required by the application, print comb gear units can also be implemented..

ASTRO gear unit with torque division for high
transmission ratios
Gas turbines with a power range of 0.5 – 8 MW work at
relatively high speeds (20,000 to 40,000 rpm). Planetary gear units with
torque division are required to connect these with the generator at 1500
rpm. The dual-stage ASTRO gear unit is equipped with Flex-Pin technology; as
a result, up to 7 planets can be used per stage while still ensuring a
uniform load distribution. This gear unit can be used to attain transmission
ratios between 8 and 80.

|
|
|
 |
ORION stepped planet
Kissling has also developed 2-stage concentric gear units
for high transmission ratios. The gear rim provides the drive. The planets
do not move, while the sun can be connected directly to the output; as a
result, an additional fast bearing is not required. Of course, the power
flow can also go in the opposite direction. This gear unit type has a very
compact design.

SIRIUS gear unit
A further variant for mid range gear reductions is the
SIRUS gear unit. This is actually a dual stage helical gear unit in which
the torque is divided. The advantage over normal helical gear units is that
it does not absolutely require bedding of the input or the output stage. The
shafts are bedded in the gears.

Heavy Duty Gears
Over the course of the years, Kissling has become a
specialist for planetary gear units. Today, more than 70% of all our units
are planetary gear units. Planetary gear units can be used to transfer an
enormous torque in very compact gear units. The competency for large
planetary gear units was not used only for cable cars, but more and more in
heavy load industries, such as the cement and sugar industries. Currently,
the product portfolio of Kissling planetary gear units covers rated torques
up to 5'000 kNm; the power range extends up to 2'000 kW. For helical gear
units, the limit is 5'800 kNm.

Twin shaft extrusion
Kissling participated in the development of ZSK twin
helix extruder drives for foodstuff extrusion, including the EX gear unit
series developed just for this purpose, from the very beginning.
In cooperation with leading system constructors, compact gear units were
developed that can transfer high torques using shafts that have relatively
small cross sections; thanks to an optimum arrangement of the tandem
bearings, they can also take on unbelievably high axial forces.

Twin shaft extrusion with shaft active cooling
This gear unit has been optionally developed as a
specialty in such a manner that coolant can be fed through the worm shaft.

Kneaders
Kissling developed the VZD gear unit series especially
for kneaders. This gear unit permits the kneader shaft to move axially at a
high speed and efficiency.

Special Gear Units
Special purpose gear units
With the help of our extensive engineering capabilities, we have already
made many special-purpose gear units reality. The projects originate in
various sectors and applications. If you have a drive problem that cannot be
solved using a conventional gear unit, it is a good idea to discuss this
with our experienced sales engineers so that we can make the impossible
reality. Take off with us! Here are a few examples:

Research and development projects
In 2008 and 2009, we built the gear unit for a hybrid
race car for the SFIT. In 2008, the SFIT won first prize overall in the
international "Formula Hybrid" competition. The prognosis for 2009 looks
good for further successes. As early as the 1980s, Kissling built gear units
for some race cars in the "Tour de Sol" solar race of the time, helping
celebrate a couple wins.

Industries
A suitable solution for each sector
The demands on gear units are individual in every sector. Kissling
concentrates on satisfying these special specifications and on providing
tailor made solutions.
At the same time, Kissling can draw on its extensive experience and past
series in order to implement even special purpose gear units cost
effectively.

Power Generation
Kissling gear units can be used in various types of power
generation. Conventional single stage helical gear units are often used for
relatively slow speed steam turbines. The ASTRO gear unit series was
developed for higher transmission ratios, between 8 and 80. This is an
extremely compact two stage planetary gear unit with torque division. The
FlexPin technology utilized provides a uniform load distribution so that up
to seven planets can be installed for each stage.
The ORION stepped planetary gear units complete the range in the middle
transmission ratio spectrum. Various other coaxial gear unit solutions are
in the planning stages so that we can find the optimum solution for all our
customers needs.
Water turbines
Water turbines represent a special case in power generation because the
speeds are relatively low. Kissling also has a solution for this special
application, with series of single stage gear units that were designed
in-house.
