Scandinavian Cruisers

The idea behind the Scandinavian Cruisers boats is to recapture the essence of sailing, by going back in time one hundred years to a period when boats were considered truly beautiful, and sailing was a genteel, aspirational and romantic lifestyle.

Scandinavian Cruisers combines the style, beauty, high speed and superior maneuverability of classic Skerry Cruisers (Square Meter Yachts) with today’s busy modern lifestyle and the latest technologies.

The design of Scandinavian Cruisers is admired equally by experienced sailors and landlubbers, giving the owner true pride of ownership. Click here to read the story behind the name Scandinavian Cruisers.

Product Line Up
The Scandinavian Cruiser Yachts
Currently we have the Scandinavian Cruiser 20 in production and are taking orders. We are starting the production of the Scandinavian Dory 18 and plan to start shipping in July or August. For our other models, the Scandinavian Cruiser 30, 40, 50 and 66, we are in advanced planning stages and would be ready to accommodate customers. Our plan is to develop Scandinavian Cruisers as a brand starting with the smaller yachts and gradually work our way up.

The Scandinavian Cruiser 20
Scandinavian Cruisers are designed without regard for any handicap, class or measurement rules. The only design "compromise" is to design the fastest possible day boat with the most stunningly beautiful classic yacht lines.

The mast and boat fit within the interior dimensions of a 20’ or 40’ shipping container, and the boat is road-trailer legal (SC 20 and SC 40).

Fast and easily driven hull, with wave-piercing bow, long and narrow water-line, low freeboards, and long bow and stern overhangs. The hull lines above the waterline are inspired by the classic Skerry Cruiser (Square Meter Yacht) lines.

Scandinavian Cruisers are designed with lifting keel and lifting rudder that can both be operated while sailing, thereby allowing access to shallow-water harbors, anchoring without swinging, and easy hauling, trailering, storage and container shipping.

The efficient keel & rudder are designed to achieve maximum speed and lift while maintaining the characteristics of the original Skerry Cruisers, such as a rudder that rarely stalls, a boat that does not easily drift sideways at low speed, a boat that is equally fast upwind and off the wind, and a stable boat that accelerates and heels over gradually without easily luffing up or spinning out.

The rotating carbon fiber wingmast is semi-unstayed, to achieve an uncluttered and modern look, as well as better safety and aerodynamic performance. The sails include a furling asymmetrical spinnaker, furling self-tacking jib with vertical battens, and full battened main. The hull and deck are constructed in E-glass, VE resin and Navicell core composite to achieve minimum weight and maintenance costs, and optimum performance.

The deck and cockpit layout is designed in classical lines with modern day-sailing functionality. The halyard and trim line layout is designed for the boat to be sailed by one or two persons, or raced with a very small crew. The cabin accommodations are carefully designed for convenient day-sailing, anchoring and socializing. Scandinavian Cruiser combines the style and beauty of classic yachts with today’s modern lifestyle and the latest technologies. Scandinavian Cruiser is designed for owners who want to recapture the essence of sailing, and for whom style and great design is very important.

The Scandinavian Cruiser 20 features:
- Classical Skerry Cruiser hull shape, built in ultra-light and strong E-glass, VE resin and Navicel Q60 core composite.
- Rotating semi-unstayed tapered carbon wingmast.
- Furling self-tacking jib and furling asymmetrical spinnaker.

Scandinavian Cruiser 30
The SC 30 offers beautiful classic design, latest technology, day-sailing functionality at a reasonable price. The SC 30 target sailors who find her the most beautiful boat available, and who do not mind the attention the SC 30 will get in the yacht club or on the water.

The SC 30 is very addictive to sail because she perform and feels better than most other boats. Nothing beats that feeling as experienced SC 20 sailors already know. The SC 30 is designed to be very long, low, narrow, extremely light, with very little water resistance (drag) and very good stability. The SC 30 can be sailed by one or two people, raced by two or three people, and cruised comfortably on a sunny day by four people. Anybody who has tried our SC 20 can confirm the unique sailing capabilities. The advantage of the SC 30 is that she is bigger and therefore even faster and less crew weight sensitive compared to the SC 20. Other modern boats have speed, but the Scandinavian Cruisers also have style and beauty.

Detailed description
The SC30 will not be normal fast, but very fast. She will be sailing in circles around all other classic boats of a similar size. However, the SC 20 is very different from sports boats. Sports boats are wide and with huge rigs and require a large heavy crew to control them in a breeze and they are mainly designed to plane on a reach. The SC 30 is just pure pleasure to sail. She does not make a lot of "noise" like a sports boat, but she is very fast and sensitive. The SC 30 requires much less sail area and less crew weight to move forward very fast. In light air she slides through the water and point extremely high going upwind in all conditions. The SC 30 will get up and plane on a reach, but not as early as some over-rigged sports boats.

Why will the SC 30 perform on the water?
- The low-drag lightweight hull will accelerate faster than most other keelboats in her class.
- She will point higher than most boats because of her modern high aspect underwater appendages and narrow hull.
- Her stability will be very good because of her very deep and heavy lead keel bulb.
- Her unique wingmast rig is even more efficient than the SC 20 rig.
- She will be extremely well balanced and controllable at any angel of heel, and her hull shape is designed to further improve the keel lift while heeled over as her bow goes up slightly.
- She is a very light vessel, and she will sail lightly on top of the waves rather than plowing deeply through them like heavier boats do.

Additional features
We believe it was very important to offer some additional features on the SC 30, which are impossible to offer on the SC 20. These features are:
-The portable toilet, which also serves as a seat inside the small cabin.
-The cabin height is still too low to offer full sitting height, as you have on the SC 40, so instead we designed the entire cabin roof as a hatch, which opens vertically up against the mast.
- When you open the hatch, there is a fabric windbreaker attached to it, which works as a privacy screen. Many ladies are hesitant about going sailing in small one-design boats because of the absence of facilities, and we believe this is an important feature.
-Many people ask if the SC 20 has a bunk bed in the cabin! Well, the SC 30 does have a “day-bed”. Not many sailors will actually use this small day-bed, but the flat area is also good for storage of cushions and sails.
-The SC 20 is equipped with a round mast because at this time last year it was not possible for us to manufacturer an oval mast in China. This challenge has now been overcome, and the SC 30 will be equipped with a tapered oval carbon fiber wingmast,to further improve the aerodynamic performance of the rig.
-The SC 30 (and SC 20) cannot sink as long as you keep the cabin hatch closed, as the cockpit is self-draining, and you can still sail even if the cockpit is flooded by a wave because of the huge buoyancy reserve and light weight of the vessel. The SC 30 cockpit is higher above the waterline and will drain better than the SC 20 cockpit when heeled.
-The SC 30 comes with a similar carbon fiber lifting keel and lifting rudder as the SC 20, and she is therefore easily trailerable. A trailer winch will lift the keel.
-The SC 30 (and SC 20) is shipped on padded fiberglass cradles with galvanized steel frames, which can later be fitted on a road trailer frame with a few brackets. The cradles protect the boat better than trailer rollers or pads because they are molded perfectly to the hull shape.

The Scandinavian Cruiser 40
The Scandinavian Cruiser 40 promises to be a remarkable sailing yacht that is both easy to sail and affordable. There are many modern daysailers around the world in the 9M – 12M (30’-40’) range, but they don’t have quite this style—retro/modern we may call it—and most are more expensive than what the SC 40 is trying to achieve. The big reasons for the SC 40s low price (which unfortunately cannot be disclosed at this time because it is a work in progress, but which is expected to come in well under the competition) come from quality construction in China and ease of shipping in a standard 40’ shipping container direct from the factory. Finally, there is not one other production sailing yacht of this class that is equipped with a free-standing wingmast rig. All of these features make the SC 40 truly unique.

Features:
- Ultra-light and strong E-glass, VE resin and Navicel Q60 core composite materials.
- Rotating semi-unstayed tapered carbon wingmast.
- Furling self-tacking jib and furling asymmetrical spinnaker.

- Sunken stern sun deck.
- Cockpit pantry with refrigerator, stove and sink.
- Cabin with double day-bed and toilet.
- Electric OZecoDrive engine with folding propeller and shore charger.
- Road trailer and 40’ shipping container compatible.
- Solar panels or gas battery charger (optional).

The Scandinavian Cruiser Design Concept
Stunningly beautiful design
Most people admire the sleek looks of the classic Skerry Cruisers (Square Meter Yachts). The design of Scandinavian Cruiser is admired equally by experienced sailors and landlubbers, giving the owner true pride of ownership.

High speed
at all points of sail and wind conditions. Scandinavian Cruiser is faster than most other boats that appear to be much bigger. The light, long and sleek hull accelerates fast in even the lightest puff of wind, and the narrow bow cuts gracefully through the waves.

Superior maneuverability
Scandinavian Cruiser is an extremely pleasurable boat to sail because it heels over and accelerates gracefully and gradually, and the helmsman always has full control of the steering at any angle of heel.

Designed for today’s busy lifestyle
Considering the high demands on our free time, and the difficulty in finding sailing crew, Scandinavian Cruiser is designed for safe and easy short-handed sailing by couples, families and friends, for fair-weather day-sailing, shallow water anchoring, convenient trailering, and fast Corinthian club and one-design racing.
