Chromasens 3D-PIXA: High-Resolution Colour Camera for 3D Inspection

Chromasens introduced the 3D-PIXA stereo camera system for 3D inspection at Control. Unlike previously known 3D processes – such as laser line projection or fringe projection with matrix cameras – the solution from the image processing specialists from Constance, Germany is based on the use of powerful colour line scan cameras. With an optical resolution of 10 µm and an amplitude resolution of up to one micrometre, the high-resolution colour camera enables 3D surface inspection with a level of accuracy never seen before.

Applications include the 100% inspection of embossed or coated packages in the print industry, miniaturised components for electronic consumer goods or the correct colouring and desired shape of products in the pharmaceutical and food sectors. However, there is also great potential for natural materials such as leather, raw materials like wood and stone as well as for parts for the automotive industry.

The 3D-PIXA camera systems are available in two versions: A compact system with a resolution of 15 µm and a line frequency of up to 22 kHz. The 3D-PIXA dual system with a resolution of 10 µm and a line frequency of up to 50 kHz is alternatively available for high speeds. As a result, transport speeds of up to 500 mm/s can be achieved with an optical resolution of 10 µm. The height range of the 3D stereo camera systems is determined in each case by the depth of field and is about 0.5 mm.
