Calpeda is compliant with the new directive for electric consumption by motors

The electricity consumed by motors represents about 70% of the total electricity used by industry in Europe. This piece of information is sufficient for understanding the full importance of Commission Regulation (EC) No 640/2009 implementing Directive 2005/32/EC of the European Parliament on electric motors undertaken by the European Community a few years ago, and which has now reached the final step.

Electric motors are divided into classes called IE (International Efficiency) followed by a progressive number. The higher the number, the greater the efficiency class.

As a first step, regulation EC No 640/2009 set the objective of reaching a minimum class of IE2 within June 2011 for 2/4/6 pole motors with a power of from 0.75 to 375 kW. The second step was to reach a minimum efficiency of IE3, or IE2 if powered by inverter, in 2/4/6 pole motors with power from 7.5 to 375 kW.

Finally, the last disposition: from January 1st 2017 all 2/4/6 pole motors with power from 0.75 to 375 kW must have a minimum efficiency class of IE3, or IE2 if powered by inverter.

Calpeda, always attentive to research on efficiency and sustainability, is completely in line with the new directive.

The last step has involved land pumps from 0.75 kw to 5.5 kW and 4 poles, and now the Calpeda land pumps with 2 and 4 pole motors and from 0.75 kW to 75 kW are class IE3.

The benefit of the directive is evident, both for the environment as for users, who can count on a consistent reduction in energy consumption, and therefore of management costs.

According to the estimates of the European Commission, thanks to this regulation a reduction of around 135 billion kWh will be reached within 2020, corresponding to 63 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
