Haydon Kerk Motion Solutions offers customized lead screw nut designs for high-end motion control applications

Haydon Kerk Motion Solutions, a unit of AMETEK/Precision Motion Control, offers customized  nut designs for high-end motion control applications. Precision molded and machined custom nuts create exceptional value for an OEM. Engineers aren’t required to source a standard “off the shelf” lead screw nut that “almost” meets application requirements. Haydon Kerk works closely with customers to develop a part especially suited for the mechanism being designed.

Custom Lead Screw NutsPrecision nuts made from polymers can be molded in just about any shape or with any complex feature imaginable. The standard material used in Kerk® polymer-based nuts is self-lubricating polyacetal, which offers dimensional stability, good tensile strength, and is easy to machine. Kerk® polyacetal nuts are impregnated with TFE (tetrafluoroethylene) for a permanent, self-lubricating thread contact surface.
Along with self-lubricating polyacetal, Haydon Kerk Motion Solutions offers a variety of Kerkite® composite polymers. Kerkite polymers are a family of high-performance materials that provide exceptional wear properties with the cost and design advantages afforded through injection molding. Kerkite polymers offer a variety of mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties and are compatible with various chemicals and many harsh environmental conditions.

In addition to Kerkite engineered polymers, Haydon Kerk also produces precision nuts from many alternative plastics, including PEEK (polyetheretherketone), polyester, Torlon® PAI (polyamide-imides), Vespel® polyimide-based resin, PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride), Ertalyte® PET-P (polyethylene terephthalate), and customer-supplied specialty materials. Haydon Kerk also machines precision nuts from bronze, brass, and stainless steel.

Thread diameter for custom nut designs ranges from 2mm (5/64-in) up to 24mm (15/16-in). Thread leads are available from as small as 0.30mm (0.012-in) in the smallest diameter (2mm) nut up to a coarse 76.2mm (3.000-in) in the largest diameter (24mm) nut.

The cornerstones of the Haydon Kerk Motion Solutions advantage are design and manufacturing flexibility. If a material can be molded or machined, Haydon Kerk Motion Solutions can process it using state-of-the-art machine tools, injection molding machines, and custom mold-making equipment.
