It took less than four months for the construction and connection to the grid of Germany’s largest roof top solar power plant in Philippsburg. The project realized by PV julist and juwi located on the roof of Goodyear Dunlop’ s European logistics center – a few kilometers from the nuclear power plant Philippsburg – produces annually approx. 7.3 million kWh clean energy, covering the annual requirements of approx. 1,800 households. The juwi constructed solar power plant uses an area of 87, 500 square meters and with its 7.4MW is Germany’s largest rooftop plant and among the Top five worldwide. Today, the solar power system officially has been inaugurated.

“The nuclear age is definitively over. The future belongs to renewable energy. Projects like the rooftop solar power plant on Goodyear Dunlop’s logistics center in Philippsburg speed up the urgently needed energy turn“, says Juliane Lindner, managing director PV julist. More than 95,000 solar modules generate enough power to supply a municipality. In addition, approx. 5,000 tons CO2 are annually avoided. Equipped with First Solar thin-film modules, the solar power system is the so far largest rooftop project for both PV julist and juwi.

„Energy has to be renewable – to 100 percent. And it has to be decentralized. Only that way can consumers be freed of incalculable risks and be made independent from unpredictable world markets. With solar, wind and bio energy, people can generate clean and inexpensive energy, in their region and at home. Solar energy will play a central role, generating the energy exactly where it is needed“, says juwi CEO Fred Jung.

The plant in Philippsburg also shows the huge potential that roof surfaces of industry and trade buildings have for renewable energy and climate protection.

“The distribution center in Philippsburg is one of the world’s largest and state-of-the-art distribution centers for tires. Due to optimized production and logistical processes as well as the state-of-the-art building Philippsburg sets standards in sustainable production. With the installation of the largest rooftop solar power plant in Germany we continue our environmental management and contribute to a reduction of CO2 emissions”, says Eberhard Louis, Director Distribution & Operation EMEA, Goodyear Dunlop Europe. The logistics center in Philippsburg manages commodity flows to more than 120 countries. Requisition, procurement, storage, transport and money transfer are coordinated. Tires are delivered within 24 hours to customers in Germany as well as to customers in Western and Eastern Europe.

The PV julist GmbH & Co. KG
The PV julist is a subsidiary of julist, a start-up in the area of renewable energies. julist emanated from the construction company MATTIG & LINDNER, a traditional family-owned business in the fourth generation. The synergy of industrial construction and regenerative energies are a promising concept to combine experience and innovation. Within one year, julist has constructed solar power plants on rooftops in Riesa, Castrop-Rauxel and Eberswalde with an output of 3,5 MW.

The juwi group
juwi is one of the world’s leading companies in the field of renewable energies. Since 1996 the project developer has been designing, building, financing and operating plants that harness renewable energies. The juwi group was founded in 1996 by Matthias Willenbacher and Fred Jung. The CEOs transformed the company from a two-person operation focusing on wind farm project development into an internationally active group with more than. 1,000 employees and annual revenue of approx. 800 million euros. In addition to solar, wind and bio energy, juwi also specializes in hydropower as well as geothermal energy. To date, juwi has installed some 450 wind turbines producing a total output of over 700 megawatts, while in the solar sector; juwi has built more than 1,500 PV systems with a total capacity of over 700 megawatts. The group is headquartered in Germany and has subsidiaries in France, Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, Greece, Poland, India, Great Britian, the United States and Costa Rica. Together with their highly motivated team, Willenbacher and Jung also share a common goal: an energy supply from purely regenerative sources – 100% dedication to 100% renewable energies.

Goodyear Dunlop Tires Germany GmbH
Goodyear Dunlop Tires Germany GmbH is part of Goodyear, a company active worldwide. In Germany, the company employs approx. 7,300 people. Goodyear has six production facilities and one center for Research & Development. The company coordinates logistical activities for all European countries. Goodyear, Dunlop, Fulda, Pneumant, Sava and Debica are part of the company’s portfolio. In addition, all European activities relating to initial equipment are coordinated from Philippsburg. The “GD Handelssysteme GmbH” (trading systems) offers services to a nationwide network of approx. 940 tire dealers.
