ophelis won this world-acclaimed award for the new glider cupboard system product. The elaborate and innovative product design of the new front running door cupboard system convinced the 30-member jury. The “red dot” award has established itself internationally as one of the most coveted seals of quality for outstanding design. The Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen (North Rhine Westphalia Design Centre) is exhibiting the award-winning products in the red dot design museum in Essen. The design and concept for glider were developed with the collaboration of the product designer Martin Dettinger, Industrial Design Munich.

glider is an elegant front running door cupboard system that provides lots of storage space and brings new quality to office interior design as accessory furniture or as a storage wall. Large fronts create a smooth, architectural look in the office whilst binders can be stored with an efficient use of space. Multi-track doors running in front of the carcase with an elegant, slimline aluminium handle provide a cosier atmosphere. The version with acoustic damping effect also gives you a pleasant acoustic room climate.

The options are almost limitless with glider as far as the individual design of working environments is concerned: the front running door cupboard system is available in different heights and widths, and it can be designed in a wide variety of colours and materials. Motifs can also be printed on the front doors.

During a live performance, the artist Roland Brückner created an airbrush design for ophelis on one front of the new cupboard system. Roland Brückner explained his motif selection: Should I develop an unobtrusive design that will not conflict with the professional workplace atmosphere – or should the furnishing have a more lively and striking appearance? I chose the striking version. The motif, a person in a cupboard, begins with the illustration of an office worker, the character increasingly changes into a fabulous creature and becomes one with nature in the end. The image segments correspond to the partitioning of the compartments inside the cupboard, so the illustration plays with the design and function of the cupboard. Every segment begins with a new theme.
