Delivering dependable safety, unbeatable accuracy and considerable cost savings, the Grundfos SMART Digital DDA-FCM dosing pump is a proven solution that adapts to changing production conditions through built-in intelligent features that ensure production continuity. The DDA-FCM features innovative solutions that make it the best choice for demanding applications in water treatment and industry.

Adapting to change is the only solution

At the AB Biofuture bioethanol manufacturing facility in Šilutė, Lithuania, bioethanol is produced from grain through an advanced process that requires accurate dosing of chemicals, some of which are degassing. The dosing amount must constantly be adapted to changing pipe pressures and production loads. This kind of situation is typical of many real-life dosing applications: adapting systems to changing production conditions is a constant challenge, and conditions such as pipeline pressure, medium temperature and required output change constantly, necessitating constant changes in dosing volume.

AB Biofuture relies on the auto-adjusting, intelligent Grundfos SMART Digital DDA-FCM dosing pump which ensures precise dosing in all production circumstances. It is a proven solution for complex dosing applications that provides safety, accuracy and cost savings – along with many other benefits.

Production safety through process intelligence

One of the most important priorities when designing applications that involve chemical dosing is system safety. Issues such as overpressure or cavitation can result in hazardous situations for production staff and the environment, and production disruptions can be costly. The DDA-FCM has built-in features that allow the pump to detect changing conditions and adapt to them, keeping vital production processes running or avoiding hazardous situations by stopping production and raising the alarm.

The accurate FCM (Flow Control Measurement) system of the DDA-FCM continuously monitors the pressure inside the dosing head. The pump can reliably diagnose the most common faults and react with either a warning or an alarm. For example, if a pipe break causes the pressure to drop, the pump automatically switches off. The ceramic membrane of the pressure sensor is resistant to virtually all chemicals, and the FCM system is augmented by an accurate integrated pressure meter. The built-in Auto-Adapt feature uses the measured flow and pressure to automatically control pump speed to fit the set flow value, and the DDA-FCM dosing head and valve design is optimised for handling degassing liquids with its patented auto-degassing drive strategy and automatic aeration during pump standby.

Exceptional dosing accuracy

Dosing accuracy is crucial in order to achieve consistent production processes and products, and it is a prerequisite for cutting production costs by saving on chemicals and other production media. The DDA-FCM offers unbeatable dosing accuracy thanks to its integrated high-precision flow meter and advanced dosing control technology. The integrated sensor in the dosing head measures the dosing quantity and automatically corrects the actual value, and the sensor monitors the complete dosing process. The dosing accuracy of the DDA-FCM was confirmed by an independent research project which showed that with the DDA-FCM, the deviation between the set point and the actual dosed amount is less than one percent at a flow rate higher than 50 ml/h, providing the precise and continuous dosing required for many applications. Depending on the proportional dosing quantity, 5 to 19% of chemicals can be saved.

Dosing accuracy is not the only reason why the DDA-FCM can deliver significant savings to any dosing application. The pump makes additional equipment such as external flow meters obsolete. The compact pump does not require special installation, extra accessories or an external controller, making it possible to simplify the dosing installation – with significant savings on peripheral equipment. The control cube can easily be moved, and with a maximum turn-down ratio of 1:3000, the DDA-FCM can cover a wide range of flow requirements with the same pump model, simplifying maintenance and requiring far fewer spare parts. With an impressive 23-month service interval, the DDA-FCM is built to perform, and to last.

Proven operational excellence

With 25,000 pumps sold over the last 5 years, the DDA-FCM has a track record for operational excellence. For demanding dosing applications with ever-changing production conditions, it provides dependable safety, unbeatable accuracy and considerable cost savings – along with a number of other benefits such as ease of installation and proven durability. When failures, chemical spills, inaccuracy and unnecessarily complicated dosing installations are not an option, the DDA-FCM offers a cost-effective and user-friendly solution; a solution that has been tried and tested in numerous real-life installations.
