PAL Robotics – a multinational robotics R&D company based in Barcelona, Spain – recently presented its new robotic platform REEM-C. The first commercially available biped robot from PAL Robotics and builds on the experience developing biped robots (like REEM-A and REEM-B) and commercial service robots (like REEM). REEM-C has been developed to meet the needs of the academic community for robust and versatile robotic research platforms. This platform allows conducting research on walking, grasping, navigation, whole body control, human-robot interaction, and more. It is integrated into the major robotics middlewares, thus lowering the learning curve, enabling code reuse and easing comparing different algorithms or implementations.

“REEM-C is the result of several years of research and development on humanoid robots. Besides the fact that our current model can perform in a variety of research fields, it is also modular”, said Francesco Ferro, the CEO of PAL Robotics while announcing REEM-C’s commercial launch. “Its modularity makes it an excellent robotic technological platform, as it can be upgraded with improved or custom devices, and from which a variety of other robots can be developed”.

REEM-C –  a professional research platform – has 44 degrees of freedom and  a height of 165 cm. It’s batteries, which allow it to work for up to 2 hours, the two high end computers, and large number of sensors make it a true autonomous robot.

PAL Robotics Spain is  linked to the PAL Group of the United Arab Emirates. Founded in 2004, four engineers started to develop their first humanoid robot REEM-A, able to walk and play chess. After REEM-A the company developed a second biped humanoid robot called REEM-B, which received worldwide recognition as one of the most advanced humanoid robots. Backed by the success of the previous prototypes, PAL Robotics started commercialization with REEM-H, a research platform and service robot to work as a guide and receptionist at malls, exhibition centers, museums, airports, etc. PAL Robotics is now launching their first commercial biped product, REEM-C.
