Jungheinrich chosen by Kracht for the construction of its new logistics centre

Measuring 3,500 m² of space, construction of the new Kracht logistics centre in the west German town of Werdohl is proceeding apace. After the ground-breaking ceremony in July, the steel frame for the 23 m high, silo-type warehouse is now being assembled. The Hamburg-based intralogistics provider Jungheinrich is building the logistics centre for Kracht, a globally active manufacturer of gear pumps, flow pumps and hydraulic components for a wide range of industrial applications. The core of the new centre consists of a fully automated high rack warehouse for 5,100 Euro pallets and approximately 12,000 small parts bins. An order picking hall is also being built directly adjacent to the warehouse, with the capacity to pick Euro pallets and 140 small parts bins. Weighing in at a total cost of approximately 7.8 million euro, the logistics centre is scheduled for completion in May/June 2017.

Kracht commissioned Jungheinrich as the general contractor for the project, including the steel structure plus roof and walls. The scope of services also includes two stacker cranes for pallets and another crane for bins – both supplied by Jungheinrich subsidiary MIAS – plus an automated pallet and bin conveyor system to link up the order picking operations and the Warehouse Management System (WMS).

“In future all material will be centrally stored, managed and picked using the new facility,” explained Heiko Zahn, Managing Director of Kracht. The goal, he continued, was to create space reserves of around 30 percent in the firm’s production halls in order to optimise the processes there and expand the company’s machinery. This, he said, was the reason behind the new investment.
