On 26 February the iF DESIGN AWARD 2016 winners were celebrated at a glamorous awards ceremony at BMW Welt in Munich, Germany. Jungheinrich was the recipient of the coveted design award in recognition of its ECE 225 horizontal order picker reflecting the new Jungheinrich design.

Design is about more than just the outward appearance of a product. It is the face of an enterprise, a component of business success and a visual expression of quality and innovativeness. “The jury was highly impressed by the fact that many products today are of a very high design quality, but we are also increasingly seeing excellent standards in finishing and workmanship,” reported jury chairperson Fritz Frenkler in his speech before some 2,000 guests at the official awards ceremony in Munich. There Jungheinrich was among the honourees for 2016, winning an iF DESIGN AWARD in the category of Automobiles / Vehicles / Bikes. The company’s ECE 225 horizontal order picker convinced the jury above all due to its high degree of user-friendliness and excellent ergonomics. Jungheinrich redefined the design concept of its vehicles to create an unmistakable product design for the future. The new award-winning design visually epitomises the engineering and ergonomic quality of the company’s products.

“Order picking requires the perfectly matched interaction of operator and machine. For this reason we have enhanced the driving safety of the new ECE by adding reflectors and day driving lights,” explained Holger Brunckhorst from the Jungheinrich development team, adding that the truck was also “fitted with a spacious driver seat with a variety of backrests and platforms as well as newly designed operating elements that ensure a convenient and efficient work routine.” New powerful drives, electronic control systems and innovative battery concepts, for example the lithium-ion technology used in the ECE 220i/225i models, guarantee extraordinary productivity and the highest possible energy efficiency in this vehicle class. The use of type-specific, thus highly recyclable materials adds to the sustainability of the modular product line.

At the beginning of 2016 Jungheinrich introduced a new Jungheinrich grey to complement the well-known Jungheinrich yellow. Beginning in 2016 all new models will have a sleeker design, with the operating functions and model markings emphasised in a distinctive accent green. Passive and active lighting elements can be functionally integrated with the new, brand-typical appearance of the vehicles, leading to enhanced workplace safety and an instantly recognisable overall design.
