Effective fire protection in the warehouse pays off, because in an emergency situation, fire, smoke, and extinguishing water cause significant damage to the unit and the goods stored within it. Together with the WAGNER Group, Kardex Remstar has developed an intelligent solution for its vertical shuttle and paternoster systems.

The WAGNER Group has been producing technical fire protection systems since 1976 and has established itself internationally as an innovative supplier of solutions and systems. The company is one of the technological leaders in the area of fire detection and prevention and offers its customers the complete portfolio, from planning and design to construction and service.

Residue-free and low reaction

Highly dense storage of goods in enclosed shuttle systems requires the earliest possible fire detection, because this is the only way in which a fire can be discovered and extinguished during its formation phase.

The early warning system used by Kardex Remstar permanently monitors the situation by taking air samples and testing them for smoke particles. If the particle concentration exceeds a set limit, an acoustic and visual alarm is set off by the system, which is certified in accordance with VdS guideline 2380. The fire is extinguished immediately, protecting the storage unit and the goods. Nitrogen is used for this purpose, a residue-free inert gas. In the event of a fire it is released within the storage unit at low pressure through diffuser nozzles. This quickly and evenly reduces the oxygen level within the unit, which in turn extinguishes the fire.

There is a delay before the unit is automatically flooded with gas so that people have time to leave the danger area. An additional holding time, during which the unit is once again flooded with nitrogen, keeps the oxygen concentration low for at least ten minutes, permanently preventing the fire from reigniting.

The advantages at a glance:

  • Residue-free fire extinguishing with early warning system
  • Certified in accordance with VdS guideline 2380
  • Goods and the storage unit remain intact in the event of a fire
  • Fewer downtimes
  • Turnkey solution for the storage unit plus fire protection
