Kollmorgen announced that its AKD Decentralized Servo System has been honored as a Golden Mousetrap Finalist in the Automation and Control category. The annual awards are sponsored by Design News to recognize and celebrate the companies, products and people energizing North American design, engineering and manufacturing. The Golden Mousetrap Awards were announced at the Golden Mousetraps Ceremony held February 9, 2016 at the Anaheim Marriott.

The AKD-N multi-axis servo system is a decentralized drive platform consisting of a central power supply and robust IP67-rated servo drives, which are placed near the motor. In high-axis-count machines, a substantial portion of the control-panel space may be consumed by classic panel-mount drives, including the requisite fusing, filtering, etc. In contrast, a decentralized drive platform significantly reduces the necessary panel space and expense by distributing the servo drives around the machine.
