KUKA Roboter GmbH is presented its KUKA omniMove transport vehicle at InnoTrans 2014 in Berlin.

Over 2,000 exhibitors from around 40 countries will be making an appearance at the international trade fair for transport technology, innovative components, vehicles and systems.

The main focus of the exhibition is rail transportation technology. The KUKA omniMove, a master of maneuvering, is ideally suited to applications in this industry.

The KUKA omniMove transport vehicle can move heavy loads in a minimum of space, with options for both manual and fully automatic control using innovative laser scanner navigation technology. In particular, the KUKA omniMove can demonstrate its talents in the manufacturing and maintenance of rail vehicles.

Individual railcars, freight cars or combinations of streetcars can be moved in both longitudinal and lateral direction and rotated on the spot. For years, omniMove vehicles have been a great success in contexts including the aerospace industry, the logistics sector and the production of wind power plants and large generator sets.

UNLIMITED MANEUVERABILITY

There are no special ground conditions necessary such as those required for hovercraft. The KUKA omniMove permits unrestricted maneuverability in every direction and rotation about its own axis. The platform can be navigated freely via its omnidirectional wheels, without re-orienting the wheels, and steered by remote control in any direction, in any space.

The logistics area required is often up to 50% less than for conventionally-steered wheels. This means that more of the production area can be used. The omniMove wheel is the key to traveling straight ahead, diagonally, rotating or moving sideways. The payload and size of the transport vehicles are flexible, with a capacity ranging from 3 to 100 tons, making it easy to adapt to individual customer requirements.

FULL AUTOMATION WITH INTELLIGENT NAVIGATION

In a context of increasing competition, demand for the automation of standard processes continues to grow. KUKA omniMove vehicles can be fully automated regardless of the payload.

It is therefore possible upon request to integrate an intelligent navigation solution without fixed installed hardware, ensuring that the vehicles come equipped with all the components and required software on board.
