Does it have to be faster, higher, further? Not necessarily, as development of modern automation solutions focuses on easier, smaller and more modular. So Lenze has teamed up its Panel Controller, type p300 and i500 frequency inverter into a smart automation solution. It is primarily designed for basic machines and machine modules, true to motto of “More automation – less effort”.

The attraction of the new automation package is centred on the integration of the “PLC tooling interface”, which greatly eases engineering. The user saves valuable time and expensive troubleshooting can be avoided. The brains of the automation solution is the Panel Controller p300. It unites the Codesys-based sequence control and visualisation in a flat device. Ready-to-use solutions and libraries ease handling of the different visualization displays and plain-text diagnosis information via a template in different languages. The unit is designed for direct installation on the control cabinet door, so no extra space is required in the control cabinet itself.

The i500 frequency inverters are also modest in terms of space requirements. The devices with integrated RFI filter and outputs of up to 2.2 kW measure 60 millimetres in width and a depth of 130 millimetres up to 11 kW.

One, not two: Lenze has also leaned the engineering. Users now only require one user-friendly tool for PLC programming and drive parameterisation, the PLC Designer. Online and offline parameterisation is straightforward with ready-made interfaces. And parameterisation is the operative word, there is no need for programming. Thanks to the PLC tooling interface, the entire device content can be written on a USB flash drive. Project, parameters, visualisation and customer data are thus saved in the one place. The benefit: the previous status can be easily loaded into successor machines from the backup. A feature that saves a huge amount of time, especially in series machinery construction and service.

Lenze uses EtherCAT communication as standard between the p300 and i500 to ensure fast control cycles. Ethernet interfaces facilitate remote maintenance and monitoring. As the PLC tooling interface on the p300 enables direct access to the i500 by Lenze engineering tools, parameters can be changed intuitively during runtime and saved in the control system via a very user-friendly interface, irrespective of the current machine state. Data integrity is thus also ensured in case of service.
