Vanderlande Industries was recently awarded the contract for a new sorting system for Posten Norge AS (Norway Post). The system will be installed in a new sorting terminal in Fredrikstad, about 100 km south of Oslo, where Norway Post intends to co-locate the processing of parcels and unit loads (pallets). This is the second sorter supplied by Vanderlande to Norway Post – one of its subsidiaries, Bring Express, is already a satisfied user of a Vanderlande POSISORTER system in Jönköping Sweden.

“Vanderlande Industries met all the qualitative properties set by Norway Post and handed in a very competitive offer”, said Cormac Lombard, Norway Post’s purchaser for this project.

At the heart of the solution for Norway Post is Vanderlande’s POSISORTER shoe sorter system. This well proven system has been in service since 1989, and during this time it has undergone a number of improvements. “To maintain our competitive advantage, we need to innovate to constantly provide our customers with the best solutions”, explains Roald de Groot, Key Account Manager Parcel & Postal at Vanderlande Industries. “Maximising system availability at the lowest operating costs within an optimal working environment is a key driver for our research and development activities.”

The POSISORTER provides positive high-capacity and high-accuracy sorting of a wide range of products. This horizontal, high-speed sorting conveyor has full-width extruded aluminium carriers on which moulded divert shoes are mounted. The construction of the carriers creates a closed deck, so that no objects can fall through or become stuck.

Divert shoes slide across the full-width carriers, pushing the products gently into the output spurs in a diagonal movement. The number of shoes diverted depends on the length of each product. The system is available for either single- or dual-sided sortation.

The patented ‘plug-and-play’ carrier design allows a shoe to be changed in less than 60 seconds, using only an Allen key. In addition each sorter is provided with a remote control. Thanks to the special maintenance button, a shoe that needs to be replaced can quickly be located and positioned at a safe and convenient spot for repair.

The solution also includes the supply of Vanderlande’s own extendibles which are designed in such a manner that they can be used for both loading and unloading purposes, thanks to their bidirectionality.
