PCO pioneered scientific grade cameras with pure digital output, delivering a digital image to a computer to be processed or stored

PCO AG, manufacturer of high-speed cameras, was presented at the beginning of April with the prestigious award of The New Economy Magazine in the category Science & Technology. The New Economy Award is bestowed annually on companies that have set new standards in the world of finance and business through innovative technologies and processes. In addition to PCO, the list of 40 award-winners also includes such international companies as the US technology group 3M, the Swedish industrial corporation Sandvik and the global IT company Infosys with headquarters in Bangalore, India. The award also honors outstanding personalities, such as Fujio Mitarai, President of the Japanese camera manufacturer Canon, and Marijn Dekkers, CEO of Bayer AG.

The jury justified the presentation of the award to PCO by emphasizing especially the camera manufacturer’s contribution to the continued development of the innovative camera system pco.edge with scientific CMOS technology: “Especially noteworthy are a series of research initiatives by PCO AG related to development of the scientific CMOS family pco.edge,” according to the jurors. “The new products include models with improved sensitivity and calibration. These innovations confirm the worldwide leadership position of PCO among manufacturers of high-speed cameras for scientific purposes.”

It achieves a frame rate of 100 images per second. The camera is suitable for a broad range of situations from very low-luminance objects with signals of only a few photons to very high-contrast images, which makes it especially useful for 3D measurements of high-gloss surfaces.

“The award nicely confirms our corporate strategy,” says Dr. Gerhard Holst, manager of the research department at PCO. “We are well prepared for the current and future challenges presented by scientific applications. We will continue in the future to lead in the development of modern camera technology, to better accommodate the requirements of our customers in the scientific sector.”
