Virtually all automation components require at least one connection line for the purposes of transmitting information and/or supplying power. However varied applications in the field of automation may be, the requirements placed on connection technology are just as complex. These applications range from use in general mechanical engineering scenarios, to welding technology and outdoor and mobile applications.

Pepperl+Fuchs has rounded off its range of connectivity solutions for the field of automation, supplementing this range with a number of key products. The new and improved products offer benefits for users in international globalized markets, enable more efficient connectivity solutions to be achieved, and ensure connections are secure, even under the harshest environmental conditions. As such, since the end of 2014, a host of M8 and M12 connection lines have been approved for both the US market and the market in Canada through the cURus approval. The market in Canada is particularly interesting.

When it comes to efficiently combining multiple signals and switching them collectively to a single M12 or M8 slot, Y and T splitters present the ideal solution. These devices are available in various configurations and cable lengths and can be optimally adapted to suit the relevant application. The majority of Y and T splitters now hold cURus approval and are therefore certified for the US and Canadian markets.

Connectivity solutions in outdoor applications, e.g., in agricultural machines, construction machines, and port facilities, are subjected to particularly challenging conditions. Extreme temperatures, high levels of salt in the atmosphere, and intense UV light are just some of the factors at play in these applications. Pepperl+Fuchs is responding to the challenges posed by these applications by offering a new outdoor line quality. Not only does this new quality of line withstand temperatures of -50 °C … +105 °C, it also boasts UL approval and sets itself apart with its unusual combination of material properties. These material properties include UV resistance, suitability for use with drag chains, resistance to salt, sea water, and fuels, as well as complete flexibility at temperatures as low as -30 °C.

In line with the slogan “One line — two tasks” and in light of Industry 4.0 and the trend towards increased networking for production machinery and machine tools, solutions are now available that make it possible to keep installation costs low. Hybrid connection technology such as the new Y-coded M12 solution bring together a CAT5 cable for achieving transmission speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s with a power supply delivering a maximum of 30 V/6 A — all in a single system. The potential savings can be achieved through time savings, a smaller range of variants, and quicker service.

The optimized range of connectivity solutions is enabling Pepperl+Fuchs to provide users with sensors featuring tailor-made connection technology for a host of applications, all from a single source.
