HMI systems must satisfy the strictest requirements to be used in explosion-hazardous areas. With this in mind, Pepperl+Fuchs has developed a modular system offering perfectly coordinated solutions for even the most demanding application scenarios. The company now has a wealth of new developments for the VisuNet GXP portfolio presented at the SPS 2017 trade fair.

A PC unit with Intel® Quad Core processing unit and an open Windows® operating system is a completely new addition to the GXP family. The user therefore has the option of installing their own software packages, such as SCADA applications, to visualize and control applications in explosion-hazardous areas. A large number of serial interface options such as RS232, RS485 and Ethernet also enable direct access from the explosion-hazardous area to the PLC or other peripheral devices. Thanks to the use of fiber optics, significantly longer distances can now be covered too, allowing even distant sections of a plant to be networked.

In addition to the PC unit, another display unit has been added to the GXP portfolio, meaning that Pepperl+Fuchs now offers an even more compact 19-inch screen (48.3 cm) alongside the 21.5-inch (54.6 cm) model. Depending on the industry, the customer request and requirements, these PC-based HMI devices are being supplemented by a new generation of smarter, thin client-based HMIs. Pepperl+Fuchs has showcased this VisuNet Remote Monitor at the SPS trade fair in Nuremberg with the new RM Shell 5 software for the first time. The current firmware version has a number of impressive features, including a state-of-the-art Windows® 10 IoT operating system.

In summary, the highly flexible GXP modular system developed in Mannheim therefore offers a combination of extra-light and compact HMI systems for explosion-hazardous areas that is unique on the market.
