Safety brake for gravity-loaded axes by mayr

Mayr’s ROBA®-topstop® safety brake which is used in very different machines and systems worldwide is a reliable braking system to increase safety, especially on vertical axes. In this way the ROBA®-topstop® safety brake can play a role to meet the requirements to the harmonized standard 13849-1 of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.

For larger servo motors as well as for “Fanuc-type” servo motors 2 further construction sizes of the ROBA®-topstop® safety brake have been contructed. There is a Size 175 safety brake for mounting onto “Fanuc” brand motors and a size 260 safety brake with a braking torque of up to 400 Nm for the safeguarding of large loads

It is a construction issue that many systems require the drive, and therefore the safety brake, to be installed directly into the machine processing space. Thus the brake is subjected to water spray and various vapours. In order to counteract these increased demands for protection of the brake, all sizes of the ROBA®-topstop® safety brakes are optionally available in protection class IP65. Special seals ensure that the entry of humidity into the brake, and therefore a reduced braking torque, are reliably avoided.
