Spindle service by SKF guarantees more efficient machine tools

Modern machine tool spindles are often high precision solutions fitted with integrated drive systems. Any defect can lead to expensive production failures. Specialists from SKF provide rapid and expert help: the highly qualified corrective maintenance experts from the Spindle Service Center do not just keep downtime to a minimum but also ensure improved product quality. To that end the highly complex components are not merely maintained but also, where required, optimized.

In order to satisfy individual customer requirements, SKF always takes into account the urgency of the repair work: in the case of a standard service, the determining factor is the date on which the order is received, while services by appointment are carried out according to the dates or priorities agreed with the customers. Emergency service work is naturally given the highest priority.

In every case, the process is based on 40 years of experience: initial inspection, dismantling, findings and quotation, corrective maintenance, final inspection and documentation as well as packaging and shipment together form a process that provides customers with a premium quality service.

Where corrective maintenance of an existing machine tool is simply not enough – e.g. because the requirements have changed – the experts from the SKF Spindle Service Center recommend the optimal modifications for each customer. They analyze the spindles and their requirement profile and refurbish the spindles accordingly. This could include changes to the bearing concept, the fitting of a new bearing with improved properties or detailed constructive changes.

In order to find the perfect solution, the technicians have access to the practical experience and information from all SKF Spindle Service Centers worldwide. Data and information are available for the tens of thousands of spindles that have been serviced and maintained by SKF around the world. They can also rely on the entire specialist knowledge of the SKF departments covering bearings and bearing units, lubricating systems, seals, mechatronics, service and service contracts.

If the spindles are not due for immediate use following their refurbishment, SKF also offers the appropriate storage solution. In so-called “spindle hotels” they are maintained on a regular basis to avoid damage caused by temperature and moisture fluctuations or solidified lubricants. Customers can therefore be sure that the spindles will be in full operational readiness when they leave the “hotel”.
