WEG, a global leading supplier of drive technology, showcased its latest equipment at Hannover Messe 2015, from its largest highly efficient W22X explosion-proof motor to the ultracompact space-saving water-cooled motors which deliver the same power in a frame size up to two times smaller than ordinary water-cooled motors. Visitors had the opportunity to see a special trade fair model of the largest motor in the W22 series – the W22X 800 – with rated power up to 5.6 MW and operating voltage up to 11 kV while meeting the company’s experts to learn more about how to reduce energy usage and operate efficiently. Other product highlights included the CFW11 series of variable-speed drives in the new size H for the power range of 450 to 710 kW and a new series of electronic motor protection relays rated at 0.4 to 840 A.

“We are dedicated to helping customers reduce energy consumption while making associated cost savings and have the widest range of energy efficient ‘green’ motors on the market, including those that achieve the highly anticipated IE5 energy efficiency levels,” says Marek Lukaszczyk, European Marketing Manager at WEG. “WEG is a global expert in explosion-proof motor technology and the new W22X 800 is a testament to our commitment to driving reliability, safety and energy efficiency even in the most demanding applications such as those found in oil and gas and mining industries.”

WEG’s new W22X 800 motor is robust and ideal for medium-voltage and high-voltage applications in heavy duty industries. The motor achieves an outstanding 97.4% efficiency under full load with a supply voltage of 6.6 kV in its four-pole version, therefore enabling users to operate with maximum efficiency. The W22X 800 is built with a low-flex steel casing and is available with several different pole counts (2, 4, 6, 8, or even more on request) for operation at 50 or 60 Hz and is ATEX and IEC Ex certified for Ex d(e) IIB T4 Gb, with additional certifications to follow.

Visitors were also be able to learn more about the ultracompact water-cooled motors from WEG’s subsidiary AKH (acquired in late 2014), and how they can save vital space in their plant while still achieving excellent performance. The ultracompact motors reach efficiency levels up to IE5 and feature an innovative cooling system that gives them 1.5 to 2.6 times the power density of conventional water-cooled motors thereby enabling users to obtain the same power in a frame size one or two times smaller than that of normal water-cooled motors. For example, an ultracompact AKH motor with a rated power of 300 kW in frame size 180 is equivalent to a conventional motor with water jacket cooling and the same power rating in frame size 315.
