After 35 years of machining for the aerospace industry, J. Ryall Machine Works started manufacturing fly reels in 1991. Being a small company, we just couldn't make enough of them for the demand.
In 1998 we joined forces with a major California manufacturing company to alleviate this problem and give us some time to develop and introduce new products to the fly fishing market.

All J. Ryall reels are machined from solid 6061 aircraft aluminum bar stock and hard anodized for maximum durability and resistance to the elements.

The unique patented drag system (US Patent 5,407,144) consists of two delrin brake shoes which expand on the inside of a bronze cylinder, creating a very efficient braking action with minimum start-up inertia.
