The origin of Volkswagen Marine Engines may be called idealistic, but that is not uncommon at Volkswagen. After all, our motto in car design is "out of love for the automobile". Many detail prove that, similarly, our marine engines were designed "out of love for marine power". In our case, that may be taken literally as the conception of our gleaming white engines originated in the heads of passionate yachtsmen who were part of our team from the beginning. Consequently, there is no tolerance among us for outdated, cheap or environmentally unacceptable solutions.
Since the early 1990's, our TDI diesel technology has been synonymous for compact and very light diesel engines which would outpower many petrol engines of similar size. With those engines, Volkswagen gained the reputation that our diesels are absolute fun to use � without neglecting classic virtues of diesel engines such as longevity and surprising fuel economy. Our marine engines fully profit from these achievements, although their performance characteristic is specially adapted for use at sea. That is achieved by means of our Marine Diesel Control (MDC), which allows fine tuning of each engine model for its envisaged use profile.
