Walter Beck laid the foundation stone for today's company in 1957 with a water level indicator for domestic washing machines. Shortly afterwards, he developed a diaphragm pressure switch for the first fully-automatic washing machines for the
purpose of monitoring water levels. Following a vigorous growth phase, Beck became one of the world's leading manufacturers of pressure switches for large domestic appliances during the 1960s.
In 1970, Beck moved away from this area of activity and concentrated on the production of pressure switches for domestic coffee machines.
In the mid-1970s, the coffee machine switch was increasingly replaced by simple thermostats, which meant that Beck had to tap new sales markets.
In 1977, the company succeeded in winning an important manufacturer of dialysis units as its first major customer in medical technology. Beck then extended its customer base with a large number of industrial application areas.
In 1985, Beck presented the first differential pressure switch for fan monitoring in gas heating appliances. From 1987 onwards, the son of the company founder, Rainer Beck, expanded the family company into one of the leading pressure switch manufacturers on the European heating market. As part of the strategic concentration on the core competences as a flexible niche supplier, Beck withdrew from the heating sector in 1993.
Already at the end of the 1980s, Beck established itself in the ventilation and air-conditioning systems market with an adjustable differential pressure switch, and has since assumed an important market position throughout Europe.
However, the main emphasis of Beck's activities still remains in the development and production of pressure switches and to an increasing extent pressure transmitters for original equipment suppliers in many different sectors.
