Company Profile

In 1968, heralding a new era of evolutionary change in soft goods manufacturing worldwide, Gerber Scientific, Inc. formed its subsidiary, Gerber Technology, Inc., to develop automation products for what was a labor-intensive industry characterized by time-consuming manual practices.
Beginning with the invention of the GERBERcutter System in 1969, Gerber Technology has since developed and patented a long line of sophisticated and evolutionary products performing a variety of tasks. Today, these include GERBERsuite systems and computer software for production planning, design, pattern development, costing, cut planning, marker making, fabric spreading, cutting, and sewing floor automation.

Since the introduction of the first Gerber cutter, Gerber has pioneered efforts to bring computerized solutions to manufacturing plants worldwide. With subsidiary companies, sales offices, agents, and distributors located throughout the world, Gerber products are the most widely used systems in the apparel and allied industries. More than a billion sewn products are produced on Gerber systems in more than 100 countries.

In 1994, Gerber acquired Niebuhr Maskinfabrik A/S, a Danish manufacturer of fabric spreading machines; and Microdynamics, Inc. of Dallas, Texas, a leading supplier of computer-aided design (CAD), graphic design, and product data management systems for the sewn goods industries. Following the acquisition, Information Systems Division (ISD), headquartered in Dallas, was formed. ISD develops and markets information systems. In 1997, Gerber acquired Cutting Edge Inc. of Marblehead, Massachusetts. The merger augmented Gerber's line of multi-ply cutting systems with new single and low-ply capabilities.

Innovation is the driving force in Gerber's continuing evolution as the world market leader in factory automation. Gerber offers its customers the latest and most advanced technologies available today. From extensive field service to active participation on national and international standards committees and user groups, Gerber is constantly monitoring new developments and trends in technology and applications.

Historically, many of Gerber's products have become industry standards as well as benchmarks by which all others are measured. By continuing to explore emerging technologies, Gerber helps its customers set new standards for productivity well into the next century.
