Vanguard Supreme was founded in 1918 as the Supreme Knitting Machine Company, located in Brooklyn, New York. It manufactured machines for knitting undergarments. In 1961, the Singer Company purchased Supreme Knitting, and expanded the product line to include outer wear machines. The company relocated to North Carolina in 1975. Singer sold it's knitting business to an entrepreneurial group in 1978 , and it was renamed The Vanguard Supreme Machine Corporation. Monarch Knitting Machinery Corporation acquired Vanguard Supreme in 1986 and has continued the program of total quality, designed to maintain the company's status as a world class competitor. For over three quarters of a century, Vanguard Supreme has been the textile industries foremost builder of circular knitting machinery, recognized around the world for innovation, quality and customer service.
Machines manufactured by Vanguard Supreme are used throughout the world to produce underwear, casual wear, and sportswear fabric. Vanguard Supreme knitting machines can be found in plants operated by Fruit of the Loom, Hanes, Champion, Russell, Vanity Fair, etc.

The 250,000 square foot (23,225 square meters) Vanguard Supreme facility is located in Monroe, NC, 20 miles East of Charlotte. The factory is a model of the latest and most sophisticated computer technology and is staffed by a highly trained and motivated workforce. Continual investments are made in state-of-the-art CAD/CAM, CNC equipment, and training. The Engineering Department uses the CAD/CAM system to analyze the design process and produce the final design geometry. The system electronically feeds control data to the CNC machine tools in the manufacturing plant. The CNC equipment pays handsome dividends in quality because of its extreme accuracy and overall efficiency.
