Recently, the downturn in the world economy has led to a crisis in the manufacture of pleasure craft. SE.RI.GI., however, has refused to compromise on quality despite various difficulties, and has continued to produce the same line without variation. The result has been, according to the specialist press, that SE.RI.GI. has weathered the recession and is coming through as one of the most important yards in Europe and in the world. Anyway, the reduction in orders for new vessels due to the recession has allowed SE.RI.GI. to develop its other activities, such as repairwork and a new type of construction in co-operation with Fincantieri shipyards of Monfalcone. In fact, since 1995 the yard has been constructing the extremely sophisticated composite funnels of the biggest passenger liners in the world, carried out by Fincantieri on behalf of several English and American ship owning companies, such as Carnival and P&O.
