In June of 1992. with a resolution of the Russian Federation Government, Aeroflot - Soviet Airlines was reorganized, becoming Aeroflot - Russian International Airlines. Another government resolution appointed Valery Okulov is the General Director of the airline in May 1997. Aeroflot is a public joint-stock company, with 51 % of the stock owned by the government and the remaining 49% belonging to the employees. More than 14 thousand people work for the airline.
Aeroflot - Russian International Airlines flies to 150 destinations in 93 countries and provides 70% of all the international air transport performed by Russian airlines. Airbridges in the former USSR connect Moscow with Riga, Vilnius, Kiev, Baku, Yerevan,Tbilisi,Simferopol,Dnepropetrovsk,Chimkent,Khabarovsk, Yakutsk,Arhangelsk,Rostov-at-Don, Bryansk,Novosibirsk,Murmansk,Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky, Neryungri,St. Petersburg and several cities in Russia.
Aeroflot has 151 representatives abroad and is tree in the Russian Federation in Novosibirsk. Khabarovsk, and St. Petersburg.
The company's fleet consists of 111 airplanes, including two Boetng-767-300s. eight Airbuses A-310-300. six long-range ILUYSHIN-96-300s, eighteen ILUYSHIN-76TD cargo planes and one cargo DC-10/30F and others.
In 1995, Aeroflot's own fleet of airplanes carried nearly 3.5 million passengers and more than 70 thousand tons of cargo and mail. In 1996, Aeroflot carried 3.9 million passengers and 89.5 thousand tons of cargo and mail.
The best up-to-date equipment in the fleet is used on flights to the big cities of the world: the Boeing-767s fliey to New York ,Montreal and London, and the A-310s is used for flights to Rome, London, Vienna, Washington, Paris. Miami. Osaka, Tokyo, Mexico, Montreal, and other cities.
Every year, Aeroflot is adding more and more routes. From 1994 to 1996 Aeroflot opened flights to St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yakutsk, Neryungri, Khabarovsk, Osaka, and Nice were introduced. Flights to the Mexican town of Cancun and the island of Mauritius began in November of 1996, and to Bishkek, the capital of Kyrghyzstan, Chimkent(Kazakhstan) in 1997.
The fleet continues to be updated. In the near future, 10 short-range Boeing-737 aircraft will be added for Aeroflot's European routes, 3 IL-96T cargo aircraft, and 17 IL-96M passenger aircraft for long-distance flights.
