Kvaerner Philadelphia is primarily interested in serving the American commercial market. After the first few years, however, the yard will pursue business from an international clientele as well.
Kvaerner Philadelphia will concentrate primarily on medium- and large-sized ocean-going vessels for the U.S. domestic trade including containerships and roll-on/roll-off vessels, oil and chemical tankers of all types and sizes up to 100,000 DWT, passenger/car ferries, and certain specialized vessels like dredgers, car carriers, asphalt carriers, etc. In addition, Kvaerner Philadelphia will have the capacity and capability to design and construct barges, tug/barge units, subcontracted units for governmental ships, and miscellaneous equipment to serve offshore industries.

Kvaerner Philadelphia has entered the market of medium and large-sized commercial vessels for the U.S. trade. Only a very few shipyards in the U.S. have focused on this trade with larger commercial vessels typically being secondary products to their primary business of naval construction.
