We must go back to last century to meet the origins of NAVAL GIJÓN S.A., for although as an independent company it was not created until 1984, it was the result of two private and already existing yards merging: Marítima del Musel S.A. and Duro Felguera (División Astilleros), S.A., those two companies having a large historic tradition and a strong economic background within the region of Asturias. It was back in 1857 when Sociedad Metalúrgica de Langreo was created this being the parent company of what presently is Grupo Duro Felguera, S.A. a very important industrial group which embraces a lot of industrial activities (capital goods machinery, enginering, etc.) at a worldwide level.
