Samas is an international company focusing on the European markets for office furnishing. It posts annual turnover of just over euro 360 million and employs around 2,300 men and women on permanent contracts.
Samas has some 20 operating companies. With their strong local brands these businesses have leading market positions in the Benelux area, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and several countries in Eastern Europe. Altogether this gives Samas-Groep a leading position in Europe. Businesses outside the Netherlands account for around 74% of turnover and employ around 80% of personnel.
(Depositary receipts of) shares of Samas-Groep N.V. have been traded on the Amsterdam stock exchange/Euronext Amsterdam since 1986. As of March 2006 some 70% were held by Dutch investors. The financial year runs from 1 April to 31 March inclusive.
History
The roots of Samas N.V. go back to a stationery store in the Dutch town of Zaandijk in 1923. Over the years the activities gradually expanded, with new outlets and acquisitions of both Office Supplies dealers and manufacturers of Office Furnishing. In 1977 the name was changed to Samas N.V., while the original operating company continues to trade as Aspa. Samas N.V.'s first business outside the Netherlands opened in 1984. As from 2001 Samas N.V. has focused exclusively on Office Furnishing.
