In 1851 John Emary was granted the Patent for shower proofing wool fabric - Aquascutum (Latin for water and shield) was founded.
In 1890 Aquascutum moved to 100 Regent St, its present site and flagship store.
In 1897 Aquascutum was granted first Royal Warrant by King Edward VII, this was followed by Royal Warrants being granted in 1903, 1911, the 1920’s, 1949, and in 1952 Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother granted them their 5th Royal Warrant.
In 1909, the first Aquascutum factory opened in Northamptonshire.
In 1927 the Abrahams family acquired Aquascutum.
In 1948 they opened a New York office and, two years later celebrated their centenary.
In 1953 Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay conquered Mt Everest wearing D711 fabric created by Aquascutum.
In 1957 Aquascutum took over the adjoining premises as far as 92 Regent Street. Two years later, the new store was opened. Aquascutum expanded internationally, including Japan.
In 1966 Aquascutum was granted its first 'Queens' Awards for Export achievement', to present day Aquascutum has now been granted 5.
In 1970 Charles Abrahams, Joint Chairman and Managing Director of Aquascutum received knighthood.
In 1972 the Montreal shop opened and in 1976 Aquascutum housecheck was introduced.
In 1980 Aquascutum launched its accessories range and small leather goods and shops opened in the USA, Canada, France, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Seoul and Singapore.
In 1982 Grant of Arms shield awarded to Aquascutum by the College of Arms in recognition of the company's reputation and long British heritage and in 1984 it was granted Grant of Arms by His Grace the Duke of Norfolk, Earl Marshall of England.
In 1990 Renown Incorporated acquired Aquascutum, six years later they provided official British Olympic uniforms for the Atlanta Olympic games.
In 2001 Aquascutum celebrated 150 years.
