Karin Uyt den Bogaard and Ankie Grrothof, the originators of Jot and Jottum. It all began in Edam. Karin was teaching at an academy of fashion and art, while Ankie was designing theatre costumes. In 1996, Karin and Ankie very cautiously supplied their first created fashion collection to a shop in Alkmaar. The first customers were immediately hooked. The initial response proved encouraging, and at a Kids Fashion show in Brussels, in June 1997, the duo managed to attract the interest of 25 children’s clothing outlets in the Netherlands and an equal number of Belgian specialist stores. The Jottum philosophy focuses on the children, both girls and boys, with the particular need for comfortable clothes that are easy on the skin.
Karin and Ankie have been graced with passion, perseverance and determination, besides a generous helping of creativity. Each has her own speciality within the design process, and they complement one another perfectly. Having weathered the first difficult years, the duo currently enjoys a great measure of success. Their collection is produced by the Vilenzo International Group, which assures them of a high quality product and a sound basis for further growth.
Within the short period since its introduction to the world of fashion, Jottum has achieved a favourable sales position in 12 countries and approx. 600 stores. Its collections have featured in shows as far and wide as Florence, Brussels, Cologne, Houte (NL), Valencia and Las Vegas. The range has also steadily expanded to such an extent that Jottum can now offer foreign clients the advantage of purchasing only those garments that best meet the preferences of their national markets. However, the product remains genuine Jottum – designed and manufactured with love.
