FitzWright Company Ltd., located in Langley on the outskirts of Vancouver B.C., is North America's largest manufacturer of insulating water sports apparel. From a small start as a custom diving suit maker over 25 years ago, the company has grown to become a leading supplier of wetsuits, dry-suits, wading gear and water sports accessories. A wholly owned subsidiary, Bare Sportswear Corp., is based in Blaine Washington to serve the U.S. market. Towards the end of 1997, a second manufacturing facility was established in Malta to handle the growth in demand for diving products in the European markets. FitzWright Europe (Malta) Ltd. delivers its products to the market through independent distributors in most European countries. Products manufactured by the FitzWright Group of Companies are available in over 30 countries throughout the world.
FitzWright is a wholly owned subsidiary of Suunto Oy, based in Vantaa, Finland. As of late 1999, Suunto has itself become a subsidiary of Amer Group Plc., a Finnish corporation which owns and manages such well-known brands as Wilson (individual and team sports equipment) and Atomic (alpine winter sports products). Suunto has for many years been a world leader in the manufacture of field and marine compasses (for recreational and military use), technical instruments (for forestry) and diving instrumentation (computers and analog gauges). More recently, Suunto has pioneered an entirely new product category in the outdoors market - the "wrist-top computer". The FitzWright Group is structured in a way that allows for focus in each of its primary markets: diving, water sports, and fishing. FitzWright Company Ltd. is the group's main manufacturing arm; this is where the BAREŽ brand of products is made for distribution worldwide. FitzWright Company also manufactures on a contract basis for a broad range of other leading water sports brands. A complete design, engineering and production team oversees the manufacturing facility that produces over 120,000 garments annually. Locating its main production close to end-user markets has enabled FitzWright to respond quickly to ever-changing customer demand, always at a consistently high level of quality that has become well respected throughout the market. Each of the three major product groups is supported by a sales and marketing team as well as product development specific to that market. As a secondary market, FitzWright Company Ltd. also produces survival immersion suits.
