6M – The Next Step Offshore
Rated power: 6.15 MW
Rotor diameter: 126 m
Hub heights:
100–117 m Onshore
85–95 m Offshore
Power control: Pitch (electrical)
Rotor speed: 7,7–12,1 1/min (+15%)
The REpower 6M represents the consistent further development of the 5M
technology. The turbine’s yield has increased by up to 15% with unchanged
exterior dimensions; the 6M is thus currently the offshore wind turbine with
the most power and the highest yield in the REpower Systems AG product
portfolio.
Designed with the special offshore requirements in mind, the 6M guarantees a
long service life and high availability - and all this at low operating
costs. The 6M thus achieves the highest possible yields at minimal costs.
The REpower 6M also sets new standards in terms of reliability and ease of
maintenance. The availability has increased significantly in comparison to
conventional systems due to the redundant design of many components. In
addition, the outstanding accessibility of the components allows maintenance
work to be carried out more quickly as well as in a more practical and
beneficial manner. Permanent monitoring, reliable corrosion protection,
numerous safety measures for man and machine as well as experience garnered
from over 2,000 installed REpower wind turbines guarantee high investment
security.

5M
Rated power: 5 MW
Rotor diameter: 126,0 m
Hub heights:
100–120 m Onshore
90–100 m Offshore
Power control: Pitch (electrical)
Rotor speed: 7,7–12,1 1/min (+15%)
The REpower 5M is representative of the successful transfer of our
internationally renowned technology in a new dimension. The many innovative
solutions in specific design detail demonstrate again our technical
leadership. With a rated power of 5 megawatt and a rotor diameter of 126 metres, the 5M is one of the largest and most powerful wind turbines in the
world. The 5M sets new standards for the economic viability of wind farms,
especially in offshore installations.
Wind farms with turbines of this size achieve outputs similar to
conventional power plants. This in turn puts high demands on the control and
regulation system because optimised integration into the power grid is
essential. In the 5M, REpower has once again shown how compatibility with
the electricity grid can be optimised. The 5M can be integrated without
difficulty into the grid, just as any other power plant of its size.
Due to its modular structure and logistical flexibility, the 5M is suitable
for onshore and offshore installation. The offshore version is specifically
designed to withstand the conditions of the high seas. This includes for
example redundancy of key components to guarantee maximum availability,
effective protection against corrosion and permanent monitoring.

Technology
REpower uses its technological expertise, its eye for
detail, and its steady focus on key priorities to set the standard for
cost-effective, reliable, and safe wind turbines: we do not want to reinvent
the wheel with new solutions; instead, we are passionately committed to
optimizing every last detail.
Teams of experts for every component of our products work with an extensive
network of highly specialized service providers and suppliers to develop
high-quality components that are then integrated into high-performance
systems.
To enable us to continue offering reliable, first-class wind power
technology in the future, we have adopted an ambitious development program
designed to continually develop not only our products, but also our entire
service offering.
The driving force behind all this is our proven technology: our 2 megawatt
MM platform builds on the 1.5 megawatt MD platform which has been tried and
tested in many installations over many years. The REpower 5M – currently the
world's largest wind turbine – is also based on our reliable technological
design.

Micrositing
The energy yield and the economic feasibility of wind
energy projects depend largely on the choice of the optimal turbine, but
also on a precise evaluation of the location potential and the wind farm
configuration. A turbine that appears ideally suited at first glance is not
always the most cost-effective solution in the long term.
Our extensive micrositing expertise allows us to guarantee two things: the
choice of the most cost-effective turbine and the optimal wind farm
configuration. This is vital for a profitable long-term investment in wind
energy.

Permanent turbine monitoring (PMS)

Our aim is to ensure that our turbines are consistently
available in the long term. All turbines are connected to our Permanent
Monitoring System (PMS), which enables remote monitoring of all facilities
from our service headquarters in Husum 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Any
faults are automatically reported without delay so that we can inform the
operator immediately and solve the problem as soon as possible. In addition,
our turbines are actively checked every six hours. What is more, essential
operational data such as performance, electricity output, availability,
status lists, temperatures, etc. are recorded permanently in a database,
thus allowing comprehensive fault analysis.
Advantages of the Permanent Monitoring System include:
- Remote facility monitoring around the clock (24 hours a day)
- Active checking of the turbine every 6 hours
- Emergency service available 24 hours a day
- Immediate fault reporting
- Online fault repair
- Documentation of standard data, temperature, and output

Unit Certification
REpower is first manufacturer with unlimited unit
certification according to SDLWindV
In April 2010, REpower Systems AG became the first wind turbine manufacturer
to obtain an unlimited unit certificate from a certification authority in
conformance with the System Service Ordinance (SDLWindV). This verifies that
the requirements according to SDLWindV will also be adhered to after June
30, 2011.
All variants of the MM series wind turbines therefore demonstrably fulfill
the high network requirements in Germany.
Variants of the MM series (new systems) are now fully certified.
The double-fed system thus meets the high network requirements in Germany.
