Opto-electronic protective devices

Safety laser scanners
Laser scanners are used for non-contact monitoring of a freely programmable area. No separate reflectors are required. Installation is simple because the sender and receiver are accommodated in a single housing.
Safety camera systems
V300 Work Station Extended and V200 Work Station Extended are completely new sensors based on innovative camera technology, developed for monitoring hazardous points on typically rectangular action openings – with just one component, mounted saving space and in a protected location.
V4000 Press Brake is a camera-based system for complete protecting of press brakes. It is a compact system, consisting of a sender and a receiver, mounted on the upper beam of the press to protect against the hazardous fast closing movement
Safety light curtains
Safety light curtains are used for finger, hand protection and access protection. Depending on the type various machine functions are integrated or can be selected via safe control solutions: Restart interlock, external device monitoring, fixed/floating blanking, PSDI function, bypass function, operating mode selection, etc.
ATEX variants enable applications in zones 2 and 22 (ATEX II cat. 3G/3D).

Multiple light beam safety devices
Multiple light beam safety devices are electro-sensitive protective devices comprising a sender unit and a receiver unit or a sender/receiver unit on the active side and one or more deflector mirrors on the passive side. If one or more light beams are interrupted, the multiple light beam safety device provides a shutdown signal that is suitable for interrupting the dangerous state on a machine or system.
Single-beam photoelectric safety switches
ICK’s single-beam photoelectric safety switches consist either of testable senders and receivers, or of testable senders and receivers combined with an evaluation unit. These devices impress both with their large scanning range and the variety of shapes and sizes available. They also offer maximum safety performance as they comply with type 2 or type 4 in accordance with EN 61496 and PL c or PL e according to EN ISO 13849.
Mirror and device columns
Device columns are used where there are problems mounting opto-electronic protective devices. On machining centres the protective devices must be positioned in the open room. An Entry/Exit system is often used at the gates for automatic material transport. The robust device columns with the 2 external mounting grooves in combination with the muting arms, brackets and protective plates ensure straightforward, flexible attachment of the muting sensors. The combination of multiple light beam safety devices or safety light curtains with deflector mirrors is the right solution for perimeter protection.

Identification solutions

Barcode scanners - Choose your series
SICK barcode scanners speed up the logistics and automation. Excellent reading performance ensures the process flow even when the barcodes are of poor quality or damaged. The high scanning frequency allows high process speeds. Easy-to-use networking and first-rate user comfort also benefit the company. The compact connection systems save space and costs.
Image-based Code Readers (1D/2D/OCR)
The stationary 2D code scanners from SICK have a multitude of uses. Whether 1D or 2D, or direct marked codes (e.g. laser, dot peening, ink jet) on metallic or plastic surfaces or on paper, they provide a suitable solution for every application. They are multi-compatible in their connectivity: From the machine right up to the control system, they can be integrated in every environment.
Hand-held Scanners
Data has to be recorded quickly and flexibly in almost all industries. It is here that hand-held scanners from SICK perform first-class work, because without automatic scanners everything would have to be read off and registered manually. This takes too long and is susceptible to errors. When hand-held scanners are used as an interface for fully developed auto-ident solutions, data is recorded in seconds and reading errors are as good as impossible. It makes life easier for employees, processes are accelerated and sources of error are eliminated – in all company departments.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
Logistics, curier express parcel services, automobile manufacture – RFID can be utilized to identify pallets, ensure smooth transport of totes or match the content to the right transport box.
RFID allows identification, even with difficult environmental conditions, without visual contact between reader and object to be identified. This allows a reliable and fast detection. Identifying faster means commissioning faster – commissioning faster means higher efficiency and therefore real cost reduction.
SICK as a complete supplier for Auto Ident applications opens up a great variety of application possibilities with RFID and barcode.
Connection modules
SICK modules offer effortless connection to almost all fieldbus technologies: the CDB and CDM connection modules allow simple wiring of sensors, even in CAN networks. The sensors are easily integrated in PROFIBUS-DP, DeviceNet or Ethernet-TCP/IP networks via external CMF400 fieldbus gateways. The use of external CMC parameter cloning modules supports the rapid replacement of sensors.

Safety switches

Electro-mechanical safety switches
Safely equipped for all cases
SICK products easily withstand harsh conditions such as impacts and vibrations. Opening, closing and locking is reliably guaranteed over a long lifetime. SICK safety switches are available in plastic or metal versions.
Non-contact safety switches
Stricter safety regulations, and the need for tamper-proof safety at work, now make modern safety switches indispensable. Non-contact safety switches from SICK can be used for the safe monitoring of movable guards as well as for position monitoring.
Safety command devices
Components for attractive safety solutions from SICK
Safety command devices are of major importance as man-machine-interface in industrial applications. With SICK safety command devices dangerous movements can be stopped safely and machine functions can be started safely whilst the protective device is open.

Level sensors: Hydrostatic
Liquid and bulk solid measurement - continuous and up-to-date just like liquid levels. For stocking, tank content, storage capacities or automated disposal. We offer modern technology for small and large measuring tasks. Laser, guided microwave (TDR), ultrasound, hydrostatic measurement up to the electromechanical option: Measure liquid levels reliably with our measuring devices.

Level sensors: Vibration
The sturdy stainless steel tuning fork is piezoelectrically energized and vibrates at its resonant frequency. If the tuning fork is covered with liquid or bulk solid, the vibration frequency changes. This change is reliably detected by the integrated electronic circuitry and converted into a switch signal.
Level sensors: Guided radar
A low-energy, electromagnetic impulse is generated in the electronics of the sensor and coupled into the probe. When this impulse reaches the fluid on the surface to be measured, part of the impulse is reflected there and runs along the probe back to the measurement electronics, which then calculate the fill level from the time difference between the impulse sent out and the received on.

Level sensors: Capacitance
Level and feed monitoring – that is one of attributes of capacitive sensors. Irrespective of whether it involves a solid material such as paper or wood, granules or liquids. They reliably detect the status of the product in the production process and during final inspection.

Level sensors: Ultrasonic
Contact-free level measurement is advantageous especially in aggressive or dirty liquids. SICK ultrasonic sensors are using the sonic time of flight technology to detect level of liquids and bulk solid and convert it in analog and switching output
Level sensors: Laser
The longest measurement range without a reflector for challenging applications
Pressure Sensors
With its pressure sensor portfolio SICK offers tailored solutions for the factory automation. The pressure switch PBS and the pressure transmitter series PBT and PFT are well suited for general industrial applications such as machine and plant engineering, in machine tool systems, in hydraulic and pneumatic systems, for pressure control systems and for pumps and compressors.

DWS - Dimensioning Weighing Scanning Systems
Dimensioning Weighing Scanning Systems (DWS) from SICK automatically measure weight and volume of packages and identify them by reading 1D or 2D Codes. They can be integrated in existing conveyor systems and work reliably at conveyor speeds up to 2,9 m/s.

Registration Sensors

Contrast Sensors
ICK - The pioneer in contrast sensors for over 60 years
Contrast sensors are primarily used in packaging/printing machines for the detection of printed or control marks. SICK's line of KT contrast sensors detects even the smallest contrasts at the highest speeds, such as print marks on foils or packaging. They detect minute grayscale variations between the mark and the background on matte, shiny or transparent surfaces. A wide range of device types with various contrast resolution methods and teach-in versions is available to meet wide-ranging requirements.
Color Sensors
Focus on color
Color Sensors detect the color of a surface. The sensors cast light (red, green, and blue LEDs) on the objects to be tested, calculate the chromaticity coordinates from the reflected radiation and compare them with previously stored reference colors. If the color values are within the set tolerance range, a switching output is activated.
Luminescence Sensors
The bright idea for fluorescent material
Luminescence sensors detect visible and non-visible marks that light up when using ultraviolet (UV) light. Fluorescent material and marks are reliably detected independently of their pattern, colors or surface conditions on any material. Luminescence sensors emit UV light with a wave length of approximately 375 nm. Fluorescent substances convert the UV light into long-wave visible light, which is then received and evaluated by the luminescence sensor.

Fork Sensors
SICK Fork Sensors: more models, more functionality
Fork sensors, which operate using the through-beam principle, combine sender and receiver in a single housing. As a result, alignment is no longer time-consuming. Even very slight differences in light attenuation are detected, thanks to tightly focused light emission and high detection accuracy. The wide range of fork widths, easy installation and high immunity to ambient light are some of the many advantages that SICK fork sensors offer. Applications include, for example, detecting labels or parts on conveyors.
Array Sensors
Stay in position - Ax20 Array Sensors for edge and diameter detection solutions
Array sensors use closely spaced beams of light to detect even the slightest differences in gray scale within their field of view. They are ideal for edge and diameter detection as well as detecting widths and gaps. SICK’s array sensors offer industry-leading repeatability, in addition to compact, rugged metal housings for use in highly restricted or harsh environments.

With our highly sophisticated measuring systems, we’re on the right road to solving a few of these issues.

Distance Sensors

Short Range Distance Sensors (Displacement)
Improved product quality with highly accurate measurement down to sub-micron resolution
Short range distance sensors from SICK are laser sensors, which provide accurate distance measurements for applications that require a high degree of precision. They have a measurement range from 24 mm up to 700 mm. Due to their accuracy, they are especially suited to controlling, sorting and inspection tasks used in quality control processes. Common applications include measuring dimension, position and shape and machining tolerances.

Using SICK short range distance sensors can improve the quality of your end product while reducing material and downtime costs.
Mid Range Distance Sensors
Combining range, reliability, precision and price/performance ratio – the perfect mixture
Based on measurement ranges from 50 mm … 350 mm to 200 mm … 50,000 mm mid range distance sensors can be used universally. Thanks to the highly reliably measurement on most objects and colors the process stability can be improved. Furthermore all sensors can be installed extremely quickly as their operating concepts are very easy to understand.

This is a perfect match of reliability, range and reasonable price/performance ratio.
Long Range Distance Sensors
SICK Long Range Distance Sensors – designed to solve applications
Long range distance sensors from SICK combine highly precise measurement results with great reliability and a wide measuring range. Long range distance sensors use time-of-flight measurement technology for linear positioning. These sensors can be used to output continuous linear measurement and/or as a very precise long range proximity switching sensor. Due to their large measuring range, the sensors are suitable for a variety of industries and applications.

Linear Measurement Sensors
New paths in distance measurement
The OLM optical linear measurement sensor determines its absolute position using bar code strip mounted along the length of travel – up to 10 km. The bar code strip can be placed along a curve, free-roaming path, incline/decline or straight line. The OLM measures the right positions every time - even if multiple vehicles are on the same track.
Ultrasonic sensors
Flexible and precise measurement – with ultrasonic sensors from SICK
Sound is a natural phenomenon which enables every living being to recognize its environment without physical contact and over widely varying distances. SICK's ultrasonic sensors make use of the phenomena of sound to detect objects and measure distances with high accuracy, outstanding background suppression and the reliable detection of objects; independently of the object’s appearance.
The application determines the output – binary, analog or the combination of both – according to your wish.
Double Sheet Detector
Reliable double sheet detection
SICK’s ultrasonic double sheet detectors have one job to do: The detection whether a single sheet, a double sheet or no sheet is present. Double sheet detection with ultrasonic sensors offers various advantages, next to many the color independent detection as well as the fact that the sensors do not need to be taught-in prior to operation.

Optical Data Transmission
Optical data transmission – wireless communication made easy
The ISD infrared data transmission system enables wireless communication. Typical uses are on stacker cranes, ASRS and transfer cars for non-contact communication from the vehicle to the control unit. The system consists of an optically aligned sender and receiver pair which can communicate bidirectional over long distances.
Position finders
DMP position finders are optoelectronic sensors that are used for millimetre-accurate fine positioning in the storage and conveyors segment, among others. Changing geometric conditions are found here (e.g. at transfer and docking stations) due to temperature-, load- or steel structure-dependent effects, making reliable positioning impossible. The DMP position finder was developed and subsequently further developed to solve this problem. The sensors are used for fine positioning in the x- and y-directions, in particula

Encoders: Motor Feedback Systems
