 Offer Profile

The company produces a large range of sailplanes : Standard class gliders, high performance gliders, self-launching gliders, two-seat sailplanes, and high end championship gliders.

 Product Abstract

DISCUS-CS : The DISCUS - designed to JAR 22, category "U" specifications - is successor to the STANDARD CIRRUS, of which more than 700 were built. As the winner of the World Chanpionships in 1985, 1987 and 1989 the DISCUS not only is the most successful Standard Class sailplane in recent years but has set new standards in this class in every respect.

DISCUS-2T : Standard Class High Performance Powered Sailplane (not capable of self-launching)

- Very simple engine control
- Low weight of power plant
- "Sawtooth"-range approx. 160 nm
- Good climb rate
VENTUS : The Ventus-2a in the FAI-15m Class is difficult to top. No sailplane in this class has won so many World and European Championships . Improving the uncompromised aerodynamic design of the Ventus-2a fuselage was a challenge for our design-team. The lower drag of the new horizontal and vertical stabilizer airfoils, developed by Prof. Loek M. Boermans, was a big step to improve the performance of the new Ventus-2ax.
NIMBUS 4 : The NIMBUS-4 is a fundamentally newly develeoped single-seat Open Class competition sailplane, which incorporates the perfect realization of all aerodynamic potential currently available. At the same time, all technological progress practicable in sailplane construction is applied.
DUO DISCUS : The DUO DISCUS is a two-seater purposely conceived by Schempp-Hirth for advanced training and instruction cross country flying. It features the well known pleasant handling characteristics of the single-seat DISCUS and perhaps even better harmony of controls.
NIMBUS 4D : The NIMBUS-4D is a high-performance two-seat sailplane, constructed from fiber reinforced plastic, and, with a wing span of 86.94 ft (26,5 m, aspect ratio 39.1), is the largest aircraft so far produced in series by Schempp-Hirth.
