Radar Sensors

Radar sensors are ideal solutions outdoors, because wind, rain or fog cannot harm them. Regardless of external influences, the sensors can prevent port machine or forklift collisions, for example.

With the help of the FMCW technology (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar sensors of the DR or LRS series, but also T30R, QT50R, Q120R or Q240R reliably detect moving and static objects.

DR - Reliable Distance Measurement under Harsh Environmental Conditions

The DR series radar sensors are used as a cost-effective alternative, especially in demanding outdoor applications where laser or ultrasonic sensors do not provide a satisfactory solution. An example can be the proximity monitoring and speed control of spreaders to containers to be gripped.

FMCW radar: Detection of moving and static objects even under extreme weather conditions.

Highest availability: Robust and compact housing with IP67/69K protection and shock resistance up to 100g allows use in extreme conditions.

Fast commissioning: Visualize sensor data and set IODD with IO-Link masters from Turck via the Radar Monitor without additional software.

Application-specific configuration options: Three lens configurations allow optimized use with focus on requirements such as wide detection field or maximum range.

LRS Product Series — IO-Link Radar Sensors for Level Measurement

The IO-Link-compatible sensors in the LRS product series are equipped with extensive analysis functions and are used primarily in filling level applications in factory automation where optical or ultrasonic sensors cannot be used due to limited range or interference factors such as dust, wind or incidence of light. They conform to the IP67/69K protection class and are ideally suited as a cost-effective alternative for demanding filling level applications in tanks and silos.

Fast commissioning: Visualize sensor data and set IODD with IO-Link masters from Turck via the Radar Monitor without additional software.

Uniform operating logic: The LRS product series adopts the concept of the Fluid 2.0 sensor platform with capacitive buttons and translucent front cap.

The radar sensors in the LRS product series have been developed for level measurement in the range of 0.35 to 10 meters.

The control panel enables the direct output of distance, level and volume values for different tank geometries.

QT50R — High Range with Compact Dimensions and Robustness

The radar sensors in the QT50R product series are ideal for highly sensitive motion detection and reliable collision avoidance in demanding environments, both indoors and outdoors.

FMCW radar: Detection of moving and static objects even under extreme weather conditions.

Robust housing with IP67 protection enables use in harsh environments.

Easy setup and configuration of range, sensitivity and output via straightforward DIP switches.

Adjustable scan field: Prevents interfering signals from neighboring objects in the detection direction.

Q120R — Collision Protection at Ranges of up to 40 m

As a cost-effective alternative to conventional solutions, Q120R sensors are suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. With a range of up to 40 m, they are the ideal solution to prevent collisions involving container cranes in port terminals or forklifts with a long stopping distance through permanent monitoring in real time.

FMCW radar: Detection of moving and static objects even under extreme weather conditions.

Robust housing with IP67 protection enables use in harsh environments.

Easy setup and configuration of range, sensitivity and output via straightforward DIP switches.

Minimized blind zones: Optimized distance detection enables the detection of very close and very distant objects alike.

Elevator Pitch: Radar Distance Sensor

With protection to IP69K and a shock resistance of 100g, the IO-Link devices are also suitable for rugged outdoor applications.

Elevator Pitch: Radar Level Measuring

The LRS radar sensors offers extensive analysis functions for challenging level applications up to 10 meter.

Best Practice

Speed Control for Forklifts

Forklift manufacturer Linde Material Handling offers its customers a speed assistance system that makes transporting goods internally safer. The developers rely on the QT50R radar sensor to do this. The compact sensor detects hall roofs up to a height of 24 meters so that the control automatically reduces the speed when entering the hall.

Level Measurement in Dip Coating Line

Effective and long-lasting corrosion protection as well as attractive appearance of body parts and surfaces are achieved in the automotive industry by cathodic dip coating. The components are coated in an appropriately sized immersion bath by means of cathodic dip coating (CDP), also known as cataphoresis. From up to ten meters away, LRS+ radar sensors measure the distance and level of those cathodic immersion baths.
