Corporate Carbon Footprint

Corporate Carbon Footprint

Sustainable management for your sustainable business success

The fight against climate change has become a top priority at the social and political level. Also, the economy has ambitious goals: For example, more than 700 of the world's largest corporations have communicated their commitment to net-zero CO2 emissions.

The first step towards climate neutrality for companies is the calculation of the Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF). This key figure takes into account all CO2-emitting economic activities from your value chain. This gives you a quantified overview of your emission-generating activities and enables you and your company to define effective and measurable reduction targets and measures.

Benefits of the Corporate Carbon Footprint Service

Leverage the knowledge of our experts

Many companies face challenges in choosing the right calculation and reporting method for their own objectives and regulatory requirements. In addition, internal resources for determining and calculating the CCF are only partially available in companies. Reliable reporting, plausibility checks, verification and certification by an independent body are always necessary.

By verifying the emissions report, we help you to enable comparability with other stakeholders.

We support you in calculating your emissions with the help of recognized standards and processes that enable comparability and reporting to stakeholders.

FAQs on the topic of the Corporate Carbon Footprint

Show all Hide all

What is the carbon footprint?

The carbon footprint refers to the direct or indirect greenhouse gas emissions of people, services or products over a certain period of time or at a certain point in time.

Who can score the carbon footprint?

The carbon footprint can be evaluated by an internal competence team or by a third party. To ensure the neutrality of the data, we recommend having the outcome of the assessment validated or verified by a third party.

Who can verify the Carbon Footprint?

The verification body accredited by a national accreditation body (e.g. Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH (DAkkS) in Germany) according to specific verification standards and rules. We are accredited under ISO 17029 and ISO 14065 for the verification and validation of greenhouse gas quantification, monitoring and reporting, which includes corporate carbon footprint projects.

Which standards exist for the assessment and verification of the corporate carbon footprint?

The Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) and ISO 14064-1 are used as the main basis for assessing or verifying corporate carbon footprint compliance. As for the verification process, we follow the requirements of ISO 14064-3.

What kind of data is needed for the assessment or verification of a company's carbon footprint?

We need information about the scope of the project, i.e. the number and localities of the sites, the type of activities involved, the project boundaries for verification and the sources of greenhouse gas emissions to be included. For the verification, the results of the company's carbon footprint assessment are also requested.

How long is the assessment or review valid?

Generally, it is valid for one year. For renewal, an annual surveillance audit is expected.

What is climate neutrality?

Greenhouse gas emissions can be avoided or reduced by implementing greenhouse gas reduction strategies and measures at company level. The remaining emissions can be offset directly by investing in climate protection projects or indirectly by purchasing emission reduction certificates (carbon credits) from internationally recognized climate protection programs such as the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Gold Standard or Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and/or emission rights from established trading systems (e.g. European Emissions Trading Scheme). If the identified emissions are verifiably offset, you will receive a "CO2 neutrality" certificate for the source.
